I received a pair of LED pods this morning. It appears they are small enough to fit in the lower grill opening of my Maverick without having to trim any of the grill. My initial thought is to control the lights with a remote switch rather than hard wiring to a dash mounted switch. I’m a little confused after reading previous posts on wiring fog lights. On previous vehicles, I would connect directly to the positive and negative terminals of the under the hood 12v. I understand that would cause problems to do the same with my hybrid. The question remains where do I tap in to a constant under the hood power source?

Good question I've been wondering this too, I really don't want to run power wires all the way to the back seat battery.

I'm going with a set of SAE fogs which are under 1 amp per light.
I plan to piggyback off the 12v bed accessory circuit since there are no plans for bed lighting, fuse #18 I think.

You can get power under the hood at the jump terminal too.

I remain confused by the conflicting information. I’m takeaware of the under the hood dual battery terminals. Yet, the owners manual provides a warning about hooking up accessories possibly screwing with the BMS. I’m already experiencing an almost daily “deep sleep” warning problem. Several owners suggest one must use the “metered” side without identify which that is.

Some have suggested using a spare location in the under the hood fuse box. I haven’t explored the box to see what it would take to route a constant power wire or even if one could fit. Has anyone actually wired in a device using that location, using what slot?

if I change from my current intent to use a remote to control the pods and go with a switch on the dash, where is best pass through point from under the hood to the dash?

I have a eco boot and I am thinking about tieing them into the light switch. With my current car when my head lights are on my fog lights are on. i am not a electriction so I will hire a professional to wire them up.

That might be my default option. I have my Raptor-like grill lights tied into my parking lights. When the parking lights are on, the accent lights are on. I prefer to keep the fog lights independent of other lights. Hence, my question.

I'm in the same exact boat as you, have been wondering this but not done any poking or prodding just yet. Also getting the daily deep sleep messages and coming to a car with no interior lights on at night, ANNOYING. Originally I had a dash cam with parking mode enabled and thought that was causing the battery drain and deep sleep issue, but that's not the case. If I were to install ditch lights or fog lights or a light bar (kinda wanna do all 3), I'd try and hook up to those hybrid battery posts but have no idea how. waiting on someone more daring than me to take the plunge and post a DIY with pics.

There's a really awesome rubber piece that you can remove or cut to your needs right behind the battery. It goes directly into the driver footwell. That's how I have run the cable for my GMRS radio and the cables for my ditch light switch.

Circumventing the BMS is mostly only a concern if you connect the ground wire directly to the battery ground post as that would be after the measuring ammeter. Other grounding points like the chassis itself should be okay.
