There's a lot of things they should teach/preach more in driver's training and license renewal, say like using a damn turn signal every time you are leaving your lane to enter a new one!! How many times I've had to guess what a person's doing because they start into my lane with no turn signal!! 🤬
Starting to teach my kids to drive, need to teach the driving laws, and also explain the only laws that you're certain the other drivers will follow are those of physics. Too many times someone 'forgets' to signal or still never turned off from their last usage. Last year I found out that you can't even trust the turn signal on and them slowing down ahead of the intersection. (it was close but I stopped and she swerve toward the middle a little with her horn blaring). Add weather and road conditions were required time and distances all change, it takes experience and automatic safety features may help but they can't replace judgment.

My son scoffed when I told him there was an actual advantage to my wheel spin sensor being on the fritz, no traction control. He is going to need to learn to moderate the accelerator and I think that is a good thing. Don't get me started on antilock breaks which I don't often notice but drive me crazy when they won't let me skid to a stop at 3 MPH when it's slushy. Note I am not anti tech, I work in tech and it certainly has its uses but way too often people think tech can replace judgement which it can't.

I taught my kids, and the rookie drivers where I worked, the same rule. The other guy is not to be trusted and WILL make a mistake.

Yes, I agree that you have drive like the other driver doesn't see you or isn't paying attention, which with cellphones is mostly the cause! I wish they would do more to development a means to have turn signals come on automatically or remind a driver to use them, but how do you distinguish the point were a blinker needs to come on? I've been a few new cars that now have the means to remind drivers that their blinker is still "on" after a set amount of time so that's helpful. Still as a motorcycle rider I'm very vigilante of other drivers and that carries over to when I'm in a car too. Always looking out!

Yikes, I’m no supporter of drunk driving (my grandfather was killed by one).

That being said, this is still a human being, and one I actually work with at that. Some pretty cruel posts here.

I can’t speak for the toxicology reports, time will tell on that; I can tell you that the news didn’t report he pulled a long shift, like we have been doing at Kentucky Truck to catch up on this chip shortage. He definitely could’ve been drinking, he also could have been half asleep. I’m not going to cast a stone either way. I can also tell you Trevor broke both femurs and lost a leg, broke basically every bone in his neck and face, and has massive internal trauma and a brain bleed. If he survives his life is forever changed, not just that, he’s got a young budding family that is going through a nightmare right now and a little girl that might lose her daddy. Personally I’m hoping that doesn’t happen, regardless of the circumstances.

I feel bad for this situation all around. Its terrible the guys life is going to be changed for life. I can't personally fathom waking up one day with all the injuries he sustained. Glad that the semi tried his best to avoid but human error happens and Trevor seems to have been the tragic reminder that it happens.

Wow that's horrific. I hope Trevor makes it. With trauma like that the semi driver must have done a hell of a job until the emts got there who also did a hell of a job. Shout out to them. Also another reason I'm glad i don't do as much traffic patrol anymore. I hate this shit

Mine won’t be built until Barberella crash lands on a strange and distant planet and this dude has already wrecked one? This kicks my normal grumpiness up a notch.
My thoughts exactly. I think Samuel L. Jackson would express it best.

I so wanted to speak to the folks saying we ought to be compassionate toward someone who was driving drunk after reading all this, as I daily watch an 8th grader learn to use a prosthetic leg a drunk took from him last May…but then @Romac has to put a name to it and has to add to the story.
Now I hope to God the tox screen is clean and exhaustion was the thing. I am truly an empath, but cannot empathize with a drunk driver, ever. Nor will his family. If he was indeed clean, when he is ready, I know the most amazing 14 year old who is kind of a pro with a prosthesis and would love to coach someone else through that process. I would also personally like to know so I can contribute to the support of his family.

Oh, and Barbarella…I was born 4 years after it came out, but I love me a cult film ;)

It's very easy to make light of circumstances in which one has no part. You're right though, judgment in these matters should be reserved until the facts of the accident become more clear. Hearing about the details makes the reality really sink in, I have a wife and little girl too, just born this year. I can't imagine their devastation if something like this were to happen to me. I just feel awful for his family, I really hope he lives to tell the tale.

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - A Clark County man was rushed to the University of Louisville Hospital after a wrong-way collision Tuesday morning.

Trevor Adkins, 28, was driving a blue 2022 Ford Maverick truck northbound in the southbound lane of Paul Garrett Avenue in Jeffersonville when he collided head on with a semi-truck around 10 a.m., according to Indiana State Police.

The driver of the semi-truck, 57-year-old Timothy Bishop was driving southbound and veered left into the center lane to avoid hitting Adkins.

However, Adkins also turned back into the center lane, and the two vehicles collided head-on, according to the police report.

Adkins’ truck was pushed backward due to the impact of the crash.

Emergency responders removed Adkins from his vehicle and was taken to UofL Hospital with serious injuries.

Bishop was uninjured in the crash.

Officials believe alcohol played a role in the crash however, officers are awaiting toxicology reports.

Updated with info posted by @Jakb

He JUST got the truck too. Bought it on the 7th and crashed less than 3 weeks later.

Looks like the driver is in stable condition but according to a family member is gonna have it rough.

I wonder how fast they both were going, the article didn’t say. But as someone posted earlier, if you survive a head on crash it’s a miracle (AND hopefully, a well built vehicle too)

Thanks! I just wanted to touch base and say that I’m not defending anything either, like I said my grandpa who was my father figure was killed by a drunk driver (March 2, 2000). I know the shock, anger and pain all too well.

i just didn’t want so many to jump the gun on something that’s more nuanced. There’s a theme to the thread that makes it seem like he was a lush at 10am drowning in booze. He could’ve been. But he also works swing shift in an area that’s pulling near 12 hour shifts daily and he was on third shift (so could have been off up to around 6 am) the morning of the crash. He could’ve had a beer when he got home no different than someone having one at 730pm on a Friday. I’m not defending it, I’m just saying we plain don’t know.

I’m not a personal friend of Trevor’s, he’s someone I see occasionally and I’m personal friends with people on his team here at Ford. I know his team is shocked, and heart sick, and he is known as a great teammate, hard worker and helpful friend.

We all have known pain and it looks like a lot of us have had it dealt by a drunk driver, so we all have thoughts to assign. I’m just reaching out from across the internet as someone who sees this human being and knows people who love him, and knows what they’re going through. I don’t want his children or wife to lose their provider or their father etc, regardless of what happened.

There’s a lot of nuance here and not enough facts. I just hate to see some of the stuff wishing so much harm, coming from the end where I see the pain that’s being done and what’s to come. I too hope he was clean and this was a freak accident. Time will tell.

zero sympathy/empathy/prayers. driving north on southbound lanes, 10am, are you joking? pulled double shift? who cares? I've worked 20 hours straight and wasn't stupid enough to then think I could drink and then drive home.
what has happened to society when you can't call stupid stupid anymore without being called heartless.
if anybody wants to pray, pray for the innocent truck driver. and pray to god that this idiot didn't hit a minivan with a mom/4 kids in it.
