Made an 800 km (500 Miles) trip towing our 2500lb Travel Trailer with our 2024 Maverick XLT with 4K Tow Pkg. Really happy with handling and taking on a few good inclines. Averaged 17L/100km (14mpg), which I feel is decent through the foothills of Alberta, Canada.

I know the metric system is "better" and I won't argue. But 92% of the readership here only understands Miles per Gallon.

Can you put that in (parenthesis) please?
Thanks for the suggestion! I have now edited it.

Could you let us know which travel trailer you have? Looks like a good weight to tow. Like to know more about it. Thanks

Hi,

I'm jealous. Beautiful pictures. The last time we were there was in 2002.

I have under 400 miles on my 2024 Maverick XLT 2.0 Ecoboost 4K and can only tow once I have 1,000 miles on the vehicle. I plan on towing a 2019 19-foot TT with UVW (unloaded vehicle weight) of 2829 with a (cargo carrying capacity) of 1061
.
I have a couple of questions about your specs:
Does your 2500lb Travel Trailer mean fully loaded?
Does that weight include being filled with fresh water?
Do you know what the tongue weight is?
Did you load the Maverick's bed to offset some of the tongue weight from your TT?

I'm very rusty about packing a trailer and weight capacities. Any traveling tips will be greatly appreciated. I'm only making under 100-mile one-way trips that will put me on Oregon's coast or around Crater Lake. Our last towing trip was in 2002, a 1,100-mile trip from Oregon to Yellowstone to Seattle and back to Oregon. My husband had three strokes in May 2003, and we could no longer travel. Sadly, my husband of 48 years passed away in 2018.

That's exactly what I have. Fun finder. I get the same mpg in the mountains of NH.

Hi Barb, I’m sorry about your husband.
I listed the trailer at 2500, but it’s actually only 2253, and that’s dry weight with nothing loaded.
The tongue weight is 215 pounds. We had about 100 pounds of gear in the truck box, and maybe 400 pounds in the trailer. We didn’t fill fresh water tank until we reached our destinations, and we were careful to not fill them with more than we needed. We also dumped grey and black water every chance we had.
We Also have a weight distribution (equalizer) hitch, which I definitely recommend for increased stability at highway speeds.

Wow .I don't run mine that lean. Mine is loaded up . Gear food full water tank and full hot water tank and an extra 8 galllons of water. Extra lp bottle. I have my motorcycle hanging off the back. I brought it to dump to drive on the scales. 7600lbs total. Maverick handles it no problem. Still pulls down 14 mpg. It's the frontal area of the trailer that plays the biggest part in the towing resistance. My little checkmate (boat) weighs more but goes through the air like a dart. Don't even know it's there. Pop up campers are a good choice for the maverick. But I prefer a hard side trailer to a bear pinata . 😄 keep on camping.

Mav does a great job. Plenty of power. 17 mpg in the hills, 19 mpg on the highway. 2,600 lbs. loaded.

Did you load the Maverick's bed to offset some of the tongue weight from your TT?
When you load the trailer do it strategically. To offset the tongue weight by loading some stuff behind the trailer axle. Kinda like a teeter todder. You want about(not etched in stone) 100 lbs of tongue weight per 1000 lbs of trailer. Sliding scale. Not enough tongue weight will make it sway at speed. If it starts to sway grab a little trailer brake to stop it and add trailer weight. You dont want the " pendulum of death". Its scary when the trailer is slapping the sides of the bed at 65mph .I have 270lbs of tongue weight on my setup. I keep the light stuff in the bed of the truck to reduce squating. Bed cargo weight has nothing to do with tongue weight. I also run a sway bar on my trailer without equalizer bars. Short trailers sway more easily. Good luck and have fun
