Once the trailer is plugged in it has a trailer screen that comes up. You enter the length of your trailer and if you want sway control on or off. I keep it on.Thats awesome. I bought mine for the exact same reason. I have yet to use it for that though. Can you describe/explain what you had to do "truck wise"? ie. Any setting you needed to change. Any switches you needed turned on.
Hooking up to the trailer is very easy. Once you are lined up put the tailgate in the half position and it makes it even easier to hook up. You don't need any fancy auto backup that is an option to get on the Maverick. I never had a trailer before and hooking up is not an issue at all.
When you are towing put the Maverick in tow mode and play with your brake control gain to get it so you aren't getting pushed by the trailer when you are braking. I have mine set to 5.5 right now.
I added a magnetic wireless backup camera on my trailer to act as a rear view mirror while towing and backing it up. I will also add tow mirrors to my Maverick soon.
