OP, great thread!

The PTU needs to keep it's limited slip for the clutch, does the RD needs this kind of slip as well or is it all metal contact?

I’m not sure. I believe the PTU is on/off and the rdu is slip.

Regular AWD Mav's (non-Tremor), the PTU is always engaged, and the drive clutch (disconnect) is in the RDU.

Interesting article and how he mentioned the PTU is not enaged all the time......." driveshaft and gear sets that it’s attached to stop spinning". I find that pretty hard to believe that it engages while the driver doesn't feel it..... When "driveshaft and gears" are not spinning and then it all of a sudden spins to match the speed of the gear to be engaged, you'd think there would be a big thud/gear sound. Pretty cool they can make it silent or not enough for the driver to even hear or feel it.

So looking into the PTU/RDU fluid change- Do they use the same fluid XY-75W85-QL ? Seems there is some debate on the RDU using a straight 75W- Thx

No debate, they are different oils (and part no's) & different weights....the RDU is indeed straight 75w.

Yep. I use just a dab of liquid gasket to insure a good seal without over-tightening.
(PS> I found Rock Auto to be the cheapest source for the OEM Motorcraft oil)

No, both should be about half quart each. Very small capacities, thus the advantage of changing more often.

Isn't the ptu fluid 75w85 ?
Correct. Doing my fluid swap today. Will be interesting to see what the fill level and condition of the oil is at 16K miles - RDU will be next week.
