We had ours done on Monday. We have had the truck 7 months, but only had 2200 miles on it. First oil change was free at the dealership.

Discussions on oil changes, a lubricant, have been proven to be the most abrasive discussions on the entire internet. :)

That said, I lean towards doing the first oil change a little earlier than typical. But there is much debate as to how much earlier it should be. Or if it should be earlier at all. My last couple of vehicles, that has been in the 2000-3000 mile range.

I would let the dealer do the first oil change though. They can deal with the extremely tight factory oil filter, and they're used to it. And, they can deal with the loc-tite that may be on the threads of the skid plate if you have an FX4 or Tremor.

Congrats on your new Mav, you will love it. Your question about oil change triggers a lot of people for some reason, lol. Please don't ask what fuel grade to use, same response will occur.
Read the owners manual and go by Ford's recommendations. With that said I personally do 5k oil changes but I only drive my Mav about 5-6k a year.

My take? 2 weeks after I purchased my little beast I had all the fluids changed and I mean all. If it has lubricant it got changed. And all due to postings here. And for me, it is worth it to set the benchmark and have peace of mind

Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor™
Your vehicle has an Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor that determines when you should change the engine oil based on how you use your vehicle. By using several important factors in its calculations, the monitor helps reduce the cost of owning your vehicle and reduces environmental waste at the same time.
This means you do not have to remember to change the oil on a mileage-based schedule. Your vehicle lets you know when an oil change is due by displaying a message in the instrument cluster display.
The following table provides examples of vehicle use and its impact on oil change intervals. It is a guideline only. Actual oil change intervals depend on several factors and generally decrease with severity of use.

When to Expect the OIL CHANGE REQUIRED Message
Interval
Vehicle Use and Example
7,500–12,500 mi (12,000–20,000 km)
Normal
Normal commuting with highway driving No, or moderate, load or towing Flat to moderately hilly roads No extended idling
5,000–7,500 mi (8,000–12,000 km)
Severe
Moderate to heavy load or towing Mountainous or off-road conditions Extended idling Extended hot or cold operation
3,000–5,000 mi (5,000–8,000 km)
Extreme
Maximum load or towing Extreme hot or cold operation Extended engine idling

This is what the manual says. It says to follow the IOLM. It does not say 5000 miles.

As for your dealer, they recommend what brings they the most revenue for their service department.

I did my first oil change early. Keeping up on your oil changes is very important. I have seen some engines that were dirty (on the inside) and varnished up because the oil went too long between changes.
