First oil change before trip

Do it now to get the break-in oil and tiny OEM assembly line filter out of the truck. After that, follow the Oil Life Monitor, which takes into account the fact that you're driving a Hybrid, and how many actual gasoline engine miles you've driven, plus what type of driving you do. If you don't drive much, it will also remind you to change the oil once a year.

Where is the oil life monitor

It's monitors the life of the oil, based on several factors, including time, how you drive and miles driven on the gasoline engine.

It's one of the screens in the instrument cluster you can scroll through. It will appear when its approaching time to change your oil. If you do your own oil changes, you need to manually reset it afterward.

You should really read your owners manual. It can show you a lot of features about your truck you aren't even aware of. The Oil Life Monitor is 'splained in it, too.

I’m going on a1000 mile round trip for spring break. I have 9k on my truck. Ford pass reads I have 34% left and 1300 miles. Should I get the oil changed before or after the trip?

No don't ever change oil before a trip.

I did that once and the dealer didn't tighten and/or damaged the filter ring and oil leaked out during the trip and when I stopped large amount of smoke came from the engine compartment.

There was no oil measured from the dipstick.

Luckily I didn't blow the engine.

Since that happened I never change oil before a trip.

I also have three open recalls on my 2023 Maverick XLT Hybrid.

I am not doing those recalls until my trip is over.

Not going to roll the dice and have the problems that a number have had with the Maverick completely losing power at highway speeds.

My oil change will be in September at the 1 year anniversary and with that done at a dealership (using FordPass Points) I will have the recalls done.

In four months I hope Ford has fixed all the software glitches in doing the recalls.
