This may actually working correctly, but differently than you expected.
In my recent experience, a “click” of the + will increase the target speed by 1mph. If you press and hold, it may be registered as “+++++++++++++++++”.
I think this is different that older generations of cruise control where you held down the “accel” until you hit the desired speed.
Try it with clicks instead. :)
Apparently there were several good folks who replied before I got my answer typed out. Seems like a consensus on how it works now.

I know but I constantly get chapped when I have to hold down the stinking + at 45 for 22 seconds when I want to cruise at 70. This sounds like a biggie improvement to me, but....(?). I currently have Honda CR-V and tap of +/- adds or subtracts I don't know what but I do not believe it is a full 1 mph. What I would like would be several buttons which would be programmable separately for certain speeds. 35/50/60/70 or whatever. Am hoping adaptive cruise will actively change cruise to match the posted speed limit sign so I can concentrate on driving instead of darn old +/- buttons.🥰
I guess I'm the old school where if I want a speed increase of more than a few mph I just speed up to the desired speed with the gas pedal and then hit Set again. (shrugs)

Aaarrrrrggggghhhh now I have to figure out a point and grunt routine to train my spouse! Thanks guys/gals for bringing this new approach to how cruise is done (maybe).

Its a little hard to stay in econo mode with foot when if in econo and button held down it accelerates as fast as it can in econo. (Life can be stressful for cheapskates too).

Looks like you can hold it to accelerate according to the owners manual. This is for regular cruise. I did not look at active cruise control....
EDIT - just checked ACC reads the same.

Yeah again not normal.. I have done the held down and press with many manufacturers including ford. The hold down stops the speed when you release.. The press adds one mph per press. If anything else is happening then it is not normal and should be reported.

Yep, this was in ACC mode. I have learned from all the replies that I’m old fart. The vehicle Cruise Control systems I’ve had would let you hold to accelerate and release at the speed you wanted.

Who knew you had to read the manual to learn how to use the thing you’ve used for the past 50yrs. 🤣

On our Subaru the ACC set speed (the requested speed) and the actual speed are displayed one above the other. Does your Maverick ACC display set speed? You probably didn't notice when this was happening anyway....

I didn’t. But I look for that the next time. Guess I’ll have to read the manual. 🙁

GOT IT! It's called adaptive cruise control because you have to ADAPT to it. Those guys at Ford have taken great effort to throughout explain thing and appropriately name them.

One more thing I won’t have to worry about with my XL model.
Although my initial ACC error was truly freaky, once I learned to use it properly, ACC is totally worth it to me. Won't buy another vehicle without it. But YMMV. It's not for everyone.

I just had a disturbing situation occur with my Lariat Lux cruise control.

While running at 70mph with the Cruise engaged I went to accelerate using the Cruise + button. The truck did accelerate, however when I released the button it did not adjust to that speed. It continued to speed up until I disengaged the system. Thinking that was a fluke, I repeated the procedure and sure enough the truck continued accelerating to 85+ forcing me to disengage the Cruise completely again.

I will report this to my local service manage, but wanted to let others know this could happen to you.

Drive safe. 🤨
Hopefully, Instinctively, most drivers would reach and turn off ignition or put it in neutral. Are Mavericks push button ignition or key fob ?

Total agree. The ACC and Lane Center were both new to me and must say I am extremely happy with both and wouldn’t want to go without them now. (Current issue not withstanding)

I’m chalking that up to user error and maybe a little over engineering.

That's good to hear. I'm assuming when this happens the ACC or cruise can be defeated by just braking as well? I've got older drivers in family that have no idea how to disable these things if toggled on by mistake.
