First Minor Dent Advice ?

Morning all,

well had my first painful experience. Came out of a parking lot to find my truck hit and nobody stopping to take blame. Was curious what Do you think would be the most economical way to fix/mask this? I am more concerned about rust inhibiting than perfect looks.

1. Super cheap, take the tail light off and try fixing the dent with a rubber mallet, before painting of course. Get touch up paint from dealer.

2. Look for one of those dent repair kits, get touch up paint from your dealer. You'd want to remove the broken paint area and touch it up.

3. Deal with insurance, or pay a body shop out of pocket.

double check with your insurance company, your policy might cover it under "no fault". My buddy was hit by an uninsured person last month...and his insurance covered the repairs. "No Fault" insurance rules vary by state. I can do quite a bit of body work but on a new truck I'd hand it over to a "professional".

Because the paint is already cracking I wouldn't hit it with a mallet, it could crack more and just flake off leaving an even more unsightly look. I would either call your insurance and see if they will cover it or just pay out of pocket to have a body shop fix it correctly.

My buddy's accident got him (and his attorney) $116,000 including a new vehicle....but this Was uninsured which is different. But his attorney forced the issue with his insurance company.

Body damage: You can not fix that with a hammer. I'd tape off the area around of the wound and cover it with rust prohibitive paint/primer ASAP, let is dry and cover that with matching paint...until deciding what to do...worst case is try to hide the dent with Bondo filler. BUT only after covering the sheet metal before it starts rusting....as it is, it could and probably will starting rusting within a few weeks.

Search for "paintless dent repair/removal" on youtube and you will find some amazing repairs that can be done without major body work or bondo. Yours obviously will require some paint touch up, but a good PDR guy could get that dent looking better in very short time.

Sharp crease, paint already flaking ? I can do some fairly good body work at times but I would not, repeat, not try to learn on that. It’s too new to do it half way.

The same thing happened to me about four months ago. I work nights as a security officer at a hotel in downtown Pensacola, so I'm pretty sure it happened there. I didn't notice it until I was at home on my day off, so I have no idea when it actually happened. I immediately contacted my insurance company and had an appointment with World Ford Collision Center the next week for an estimate. They ordered the parts and it was repaired shortly after the parts came in(about two weeks). I did have to pay the deductible, but the repair was flawless. I couldn't tell it had ever been hit.
My advice is contact your insurance company ASAP and work with them to get it repaired professionally.

if dent can be pushed out, then depending on the severity of the paint loss/defects under, i would suggest maybe doing a respray of that one part. luckily these are still newer, so less blending needs to be done.
