Picked up my mav from granger yesterday. Purchased it without ever driving one before as it was the only vehicle available today that ticked all the right boxes for our current needs so I knew I’d get a mav. I originally ordered a job1 mav from a local dealer but declined it since I figured I could wait a bit longer for a job2 with the tow assists. Opted for the lariat since it will be our primary vehicle for local and road trips and I wanted to splurge on things like the B&O stereo, the electric sliding window, and the adaptive cruise.

my first drive was over 600 miles (Iowa to Tn)

the truck so far has exceed my expectations. I won’t cover what worked as expected but here’s a few items that surprised me.

lane centering is much nicer than lane keeping. It made for a less stressful highway cruise. I was happy that the transition on and off was smooth and glad there’s an audible “bing” when it drops out due to poor lane markings. I’m told Hyundais just drop out without warning.

adaptive cruise also worked flawlessly and it includes the option to auto adjust based on speed limit signs! Even better, you can add a fudge factor. If the speed limit is 55 you can put a +4 and the truck will go 59. More than once it adjusted up or down before I noticed the signs.

the built in nav includes options for displaying some extra stuff on screen. Not complete but not bad. I still prefer Waze with the real time alerts ( semi went off road in front of me and I was first to put a crash alert on Waze. Was a danger as it was sticking out on a lane… hopefully helped other drivers behind me) . The built in nav won’t open if you are actively navigating with Waze. I found no way to get to it, but if you aren’t navigating to a destination in Waze, and just have it open, you can go between Waze and the built in nav.

the built in Alexa was kind of cool but doesn’t quite have the full capabilities same as at home, but I was able to do things like “Alexa announce my eta is 3 hours” and it announced at my house while I was driving home.

The fm radio performance is poor. My favorite radio station (WEVL fm inon commercial music all the time..a nd it streams from their web page, check it out.. the last of the true independent stations) is marginal where I live but all my other vehicles pick it up fine. The mav… not so much … (and yes, I did screw in the rubber duck antenna that the dealer forget to screw on)… however there is built in HD fm … I was surprised high def not enabled by default though. You need to get into the menus and enable it.

I like the EV coach screen. With careful modulation you can drive in full EV mode as long as the battery has juice. Not far, and not fast, but it’s cool.

highway mpg wasn’t great but I was driving into strong headwinds most of the time and not going slow. I expect better as the car gets broken in. Still better than any other truck.

I sure I’ll find more cool stuff but it’s all good so far.

Another semi surprise is how badly ford screwed up the lariat ambient lighting. You can adjust the level but they missed lighting the center console as well as the rear door pulls. Just half-assed the feature. They should be ashamed but at least the lack of console lighting is an easy $4 fix with a usb light. Even matches the cool blue

Do you have a link for the USB light?

Agree with the lane keep and adaptive cruise control, they work so well. Much better than my experience on 2019 Lexus 350 system. If the steering could handle tighter 45 mph turns and slow down on its own, it would be like a stripped down version of Autopilot on the Tesla.

The one thing I really don't care for on the Maverick is how the engine turns on and makes strange noises when driving around slow. My old 2011 Prius never acted like this or made these strange sounds. Even so, I'm so happy that I purchased this Maverick, I love everything else about it.

The ”strange sounds” you refer to are the federally mandated artificial noises that were put into place because early Prius drivers were apparently mowing down all the blind pedestrians in parking lots with their stealthy quiet cars. 😉

Yup! My wife, a 3-time Prius driver, almost mowed me down a few times because I didn't hear the car. She says it they were just "accidents" but I wonder...
