Coming up on 46 years and never needed one. Just watching out "for the other guy"... ;)

I like camping, and tote along a 1500w LiFePO4 generator with solar charging capability. I also doubt I'll ever need to use the fire extinguisher, but if I do I'd rather have one handy than not. As stated, I may come upon an accident or vehicle fire someday where I could help out someone with a fire extinguisher. Really not a bad idea for any vehicle owner, nor is carrying a decent first aid kit.

After seeing this thread, took my extinguisher out from under the rear seat, removed the bracket, and put it in the driver’s side rear door. Hope to never use it for me or anyone else but glad it is there.

Think of it as a little "Insurance" just in case. ;)

Like a lot of things, it’s better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it!

Since this is a Maverick Truck Club forum, I didn't see the need to include or specifically exclude those who don't drive or own a Maverick. Gasoline is volatile and lithium batteries do catch fire so it would be a good idea for everyone to carry the proper fire extinguisher in their vehicle.
We carried one stashed behind the seats in our Ford Ranger...for seventeen years. Then, on my birthday, as we pulled into the garden center, our engine began to smoke. But! In a few seconds we'd grabbed the extinguisher and *thankfully!* it actually still worked, and the fire was out. The truck was also officially dead, but we gave the remains (including truck cap) to Good News Garage for parts. Loved that red truck. That's why we have a Hot Pepper Red Maverick hybrid.

Just a FYI - bought one 2 of Amazon's better reviewed fire extinguishers (mainly due to recall of engine fires on Hybrids). Placed in back seat storage and a month later found it had a slight chemical leak...fortunately I was able to clean it up with no damage...but it is now stored in 2 zip lock plastic bags. Have both secured so they are not rolling around in the under rear seat cubby holes.

Agree with Fcnrwy, I mostly carry it in the off chance another motorist needs assistance in such a manner. I am not so concerned about an engine block breach and the ensuing combustion of exposed fluids, to the extent that influenced my decision. My guess is that if said failure did occur, it is quite unlikely any extinguisher of this type would have any effect on the underhood inferno. And it would be risky at best.

In my left-side passenger cubby is a KIDDE Marine-grade extinghisher with a Seatbelt/window breaker...

Both fit pretty snug with no additions...

Old thread but in my 2025 with the Mabett Door Side Storage Trays I found my extinguisher rattles just a bit. So I designed a 3D printable sleeve for anyone else who might happen to have the Kidde 21028230 extinguisher rattling just enough to annoy them :) You can download it for printing at Printables.com.

I have a Halon that came out of the airplane I used to own. Fit's in the door perfectly.
Halon is a great extinguisher...lots of uses especially where no residue after use is paramount...think aircraft engines, computer server complexes etc.

It is good to know that it displaces oxygen (how it snuffs out a fire...CO2 extinguishers do the same thing) so don't use it in a confined space if someone is in it or trapped.

As well, many already know, but Halon has a devastating effect on the ozone layer and is why it has been fazed out in most places after the Montreal Accord was signed. (I think that was in the middle eighties and it was only a few years ago that the ozone layer has recovered...a close one for the earth's inhabitants.

I thought I would just add this note, in case people think a Halon extinguisher should be in everyone's garage or Maverick!

Have a good one,

Andy
