Topping off the tank can get liquid gas into the evap canister which can cost several hundred $$$ to turn off the check engine light and cure emission problem codes. Fill the tank to first click off using the slow setting on the gas pump handle! Tell wife 4% is safety margin. As far as the gas pump "siphon" it has a vapor vacuum to recapture any vapor that may get pushed out of tank by the incoming fuel.
But only in a few states.

In the hybrid with the capless filler, mine seems to get darn near completely full on its own.

Which is a refreshing change.

Five extra clicks rarely puts in more than 0.2 Gal so now I do two clicks and be done with it.

Gotta make sure the first click was not a false one.

Seems like perfect example of googling info to include in a video.
I'm not even going to bother looking up how many decades ago an overflow drain was allowed to go to the ground.
His discussion was on modern cars - so doesn't apply.

They do what I'd suggest his 1 main point should be - the Evap system comments - drains back in to that.

The whole vacuum system for vapor isn't even used everywhere, so 2 points don't even apply to everyone.
And even for that system, to imagine syphoned fuel is any real amount - he should have included evaporated gas while you are inserting/removing the nozzle and the escaping air - because that's on the same level of usefulness to worry about.

Has anyone noticed mainly since FMC changed the Ford Pass App after filling the tank that fuel level never sees 100%? Even though I do a no no and click the nozzle multiple times fuel level never gets topped off at least as far as the app goes. My wife repeatedly tells me (you didn’t fill the tank).
Last week I ran my Mav to almost empty (3 miles to E!!!) before refilling the tank. It went 624 miles and took 14 gallons for 44.5mpg using Eco mode the whole time (which means changing to Eco every single time), not the 47.8mpg the "guesstimator" said. Still, I am very pleased. Mt '07 Tacoma 4door got 17mpg on a good day. This is not my best tank mpg, but in the summer running AC in the afternoon during my 39-mile commute (each way).

As an experiment, I running this tank in standard mode, not Eco.

One of the stations I fill up at have a little sign on the pump that says to give it a squeeze for a second click and wait 30 seconds before removing to keep fuel from leaking on the shiny paint.

It's not advisable to overfill cars, including hybrids. Even the manuals for my 2013 and 2015 Volts recommended stopping once the pump automatically shuts off. Overfilling can cause various issues, such as damaging the evaporative emission system, leading to increased emissions and potential engine problems.

I've always thought the 1 or 2 click argument was kind of moot. Does every individual pump shut off at exactly the same backpressure? Seems like there would be variance.

Today was 2 time I put gas into my ‘24 Lariat Hybrid. Ran it slow, clicked off way too early for how empty I was. Problem with running in very slow are the jerks & surges you feel when others are doing the extra clicks!

Anyway when it did what I figured was the real full click off, gave it 30 seconds and hit it once more.

Just checked FordPass, shows 100% full. Guess the OPs wife is correct, they aren’t fully fueled! 😁😁😁

I guess if Cooley googled that it 'could' suck gas back into the pumps vapor recovery system, it must be true!
