EDIT: Possibly due to Rain-X on windshield

I've had my Maverick a year but it only has 3000 miles on it. Has been garaged 99% of its life outside those 3000 miles. Driven in rain maybe 4x total using wiper blades sporadically (Rain-X ftw). SE USA.

Wiper blades still look brand spanking new and rubber is very soft. Windshield extremely clear.

I get all sorts of skipping when using recently on the downward stroke. If I put to high, they are smooth. Wondering if the factory wipers are just absolute trash or something is up with my mechanism.

Here is a video:

I have been driving my Mav for almost 3 years. I have had no problems with my OEM wiper blades skipping.

It’s a bit to do,what I did was fine clay bar the windshield, then used Gla-c (see pic)used my orbital with gray pad and more Gla-c to finalize my vehicle is a year old with 3K on it.

My Maverick's wiper blades are absolutely the best blades I've ever had on a vehicle. Still great, 1 year in.
Maybe it's the product you've used on the glass. I never use anything on the windshield, except glass cleaner. I did have frequent wiper issues on previous vehicles where I did try Rain-X a few times. Chattering and streaking...

Yes I think this may be it.

However my wife's car (Prius) has no such issues with Rain-X.

I guess I have a decision to make, Rain-X or wipers. It's unfortunate, I really like the Rain-X use in normal driving (no wipers needed above 30-40 mph).

OK, I flipped the blades and clay bar'd it, then used a Mr Clean Magic eraser on the windshield.

I think it might be the rain-x I applied. Windshield is bone dry when the blades swipe. That might be why.

I haven't had great experience with RainX; once it starts to wear out it causes awful streaking.
However, I bought RainX brand washer fluid (my Mav came almost empty from the factory), and it is by far the best washer fluid I have ever used here in dry dusty SoCal.
Can't really comment on the blades , other than to say they haven't been killed by 8 months of our constant sunshine, and I do park outside.

I don't know if the electric motor makes any difference, if there's not "a lot" of water on our windshield, our "skip" a little bit. Never put anything on the glass.

I always wipe them when washing the car to get any gunk stuck underneath. I used to park under a tree and would have to do it often. Now that I don't, I don't have to wipe them as much. Or sometimes, I'll wipe the blades with WD-40. I learned that on an old video from Scotty Kilmer. Same goes for window trim.

If I had one gripe about the wipers is their location. The fact that the hood drapes over the entire windshield cowl and prevents you from propping them up in the air like most cars. The only way to get them up is to turn the car on, activate the wipers and then immediately turn off the car when the wipers catch the top of the windshield. Most won't think to do that and will yank them manually which is a big no-no on the wiper motor. Bad design.

I use Rain-X glass cleaner and wipe down the blades with alcohol. I am now just past the 2 year mark with them...and yes, it does rain where I live!

Ceramic coated windshield.

Proper decontamination of windshield prior to applying rainX or Ceramic coat is a must.
1. Claybar.
2. 0000 steel wool with a 99% alcohol as lube for the steel wool.
3. Clean with high quality cleaner
4. Apply coating.

It may possibly have something to do with the difference in the rake of the windshield on the Prius, compared to the more vertical slope of the truck's. Just a WAG, though.
