Every vehicle we have owned the past 20 odd years has gotten an Evap code of some form at one time or another and has never been the gas cap. Split rubber hose. Broken plastic connector most likely faulty from the factory. Defective purge valve also defective from the factory. In the case of my old Ranger, crack in the charcoal canister.

I'm willing to bet the guy that decided to mandate this owns lots of stock in the company that makes gas caps.

Just more gov't mandated systems that cause more trouble than it is worth IMHO.
