I think i may have your answer... this same thing happened to me in that the passenger door doesn't always lock when activated by the key fob... I'm guessing it'd be the same with the app (same mechanical/ electrical system). I happened to be a little o.c.d. when I'm leaving my truck in the parking garage for an extended period of time so I manually check all the doors and box lock... that's how I found out as I locked the doors and then did my o.c.d. check (lol)! Now, I check everytime. Has happened twice to me ... always the passenger side door (once the front, once the back). Impossible to replicate on demand for dealer.

My Wife is CDO , which is OCD in order. Don't have to worry about Mav being locked up tight

It might also be possible for someone to connect to the vehicle's CAN bus through some externally accessible connector and command this. Seems a lot of effort to expend for what they're doing...

yes, they would steal the whole truck after hijacking canbus.

get a camera such as ring or arlo and make sure the app is set to bypass do not disturb and always notify. then go see what this person is doing. my guess is that they're using a slim device to reach into the truck through the top of the window and manually unlock the door.

if they have stolen your rfid that is very bad because you would have to buy new fobs and rekey the truck, which is very expensive. you definitely can reprogram the keypad and remove the factory code.

No one would have the keypad code. I think I gave it to my wife, but she may have driven the truck three times in the two-and-a-half years that we have owned it. I use a switchblade key fob to enter. The truck that was parked around the corner did not look to be stolen. (I live in Baltimore. I am familiar with the telltale signs of a stolen vehicle.)

Both of the incidents involving my truck occurred within earshot of the alarm. I would have heard if someone had set it off. It looks like someone has figured out how to override the key fob or the FordPass system.

I am glad this person didn't break the windows.

there are 2 separate transmitters in the Maverick key fob. one of them is used to unlock the doors and it has decent range. the other radio is an immobilizer used for the ignition and it has much shorter range.

it's possible to capture both if a person observing you has the right equipment. (a directional antenna and a frequency scanning and logging device.) there are criminal tools sold on the internet that do this. the immobilizer stellantis used for a long time is not secure, that's why you see so many hellcats and srts being stolen, but I don't think it's currently possible to circumvent it in a current model Ford fob.

they can definitely get into the vehicle, though. you can't stop it if they are observing (and recording) you unlocking the truck and getting in.

again I'd just put up a camera, get some pepper spray, and see what's going on in the middle of the night.

I think the camera is a good idea. They keep coming back and being able to watch them get in the truck will give us the answer. I have some Wi-Fi security cameras made by "eufy Security" they have options that are wired for power or use batteries or use solar. The camera can save the video internally or to a hub depending on the model and how you want to set them up.

I read, on this site I believe, that it is more reliable to lock the door with the button on the door than using the fob, so that's what I've been doing. Don't know if it really does anything, but it made sense.

I will lock my truck with the double push of lock button = one honk is lock was successful and two honks is lock was not successful. (Hood not closed, or doors not completely shut or something else maybe 12v in power save mode, I have no idea?).

It is in the glove box, right? Has anyone ever serviced or valet parked it?

It's my understanding that a person in close proximity and with the right equipment can copy the signal from your key fob when you push the button to remotely lock your vehicle. That's why it's always a good idea to lock your vehicle with the button on the door and not the fob.

that shouldn't be the case for any even vaguely modern vehicle!

modernly, there should be a rolling code, a challenge/response, or whatever.

I got curious and bored, and I found that Dodges are most often stolen via relay attack. they scan you to find your fob's frequencies. then they get near enough to you and the vehicle.

a faraday pouch does help with this because they can't read the fob when you're home, work, hotel etc.

modern Ford key fobs have a motion detector and shut down when stationary so you don't need the pouch if you're sleeping, but if you're walking around in a building with it in your pocket, they could conceivably relay from your fob.

My 2022 XLT Hybrid was entered by someone a few months ago. The passenger side door was left ajar. The alarm didn't sound and there was no sign of forcible entry. The intruder rifled through the glove box and console. Nothing was taken because I don't leave things of value in the truck. I guessed that I forgot to lock the truck, but that is very unlike me.

It happened again a couple of weeks ago. On that second go around the console and glove box were closed. The sunglass holder was left open. That time, I was certain that I had locked the truck. I have developed a habit of locking the truck on my Fordpass App every night.

This morning, I found another Maverick with its front passenger side door ajar. The console lid was open and some things had been tossed around. It was right around the corner from my house. This is happening in a densely populated neighborhood in Baltimore. If an alarm goes off, someone hears it.

Obviously, some goofball with electronic skills has a fetish for Mavericks. Can anyone suggest a remedy?

I left my tailgate down midafternoon then around 2/3 am my alarm went off ran outside found nothing just open tailgate???

What made us hop on the 'electronic' path when it could be a mechanical, "slim-jim" path? Maybe there's a 'known-amongst-thieves' vulnerability in the passenger door that allows a slim-jim to be used without damage?
