Will my brake calipers/rotors still fit if I went down from 17” to 16” rims, or will it lead to clearance issues?

Looking for a way to achieve a larger outside tire diameter without sacrificing MPG.

Switching out my 225/65R17 XLT stock tires with 245/65R17 tires will give me that extra 1” in diameter, but increases the weight. Whereas going with an 225/75R16 can give me a comparable diameter increase without the added weight. Granted there are other considerations like wobble/handling, if I go that route.

I wish. I did find a set of 5x4.25 16 wheels on the side of the road a while back. Steel ones, so I will try but our Maverick wont be home till early august. I will post up my findings then. I would be willing to grind the calipers a touch(been there done that) and possibly use spacers. If I can get 245/75r16s to fit on a 1" lifted Tremor, that would be the perfect setup I think. 31x10x16 on a Maverick with a locker would be equivalent to a well built trail Ranger in 1985.
