Engine Light scare and solution

After reading the post about the dripping oil under the hood and his Maverick exploding I was pretty concerned after 200 miles of my 454 mile trip when my engine light came on after I left the rest area I took the next exit and pulled into the Walmart parking lot, away from the other cars. I hesitated for a moment and then decided to look under the hood for dripping oil and luckily there wasn’t any

Then I called the Service Manager because I didn’t know what to do. He looked at my truck on the Ford pass, the error code and told me the truck was ok to drive after explaining the sensor was the issue. I felt much better and had no issues on the remaining part of my trip! So grateful Ford folks can look up the current data on my truck and let me know what’s going on so I didn’t have to call roadside assistance! Pretty stress free trip

FYI, an oil leak will NOT cause a check engine light. Well, it could, but if it did that would mean the oil was already so critically low that it would have led to an engine failure. Also, don't worry about that stuff so much. Chances are very good the guy you are referring to who burned his truck down left the oil fill cap off of his truck. And for sure he continued to drive it with it spewing oil. That fire is 100% his fault

On May 24 around 2pm on a sunny day at San Bernardino my Maverick truck unexpectedly caught on fire and explodes after it was leaking oil in the engine area. My family and I narrowly escaped the smoked filled cabin. Being a 2021 build and one of the few first owner of my wonderful truck, I’m still is a dazed on why my truck did this. I never had any issues and my truck build and was very reliable.

On May 24 my truck started to smoke on a mountain pass and I pulled over and popped the hood open. Oil was dripping off the ceiling of the hood but it was a small amount. So I turned around and that’s when the check engine light started to blink. No warning of the truck dashboard was advertised but only the change oil soon did since it was due for an oil change. I made it to a gas station and the smoke was minimal so I purchase a couple quarts and filled one quart in. I keep a funnel in the cubbies space of the engine bay . (In the fender wall) . Drove the Maverick to an empty parking lot so I can get it towed due to the smoke was getting heavy. As I parked the Maverick the cabin was filled with smoke and that’s when we decided to bail out of the Maverick and that when we saw fire erupting out of the outside of the windshield . As we ran away from the burning Maverick it exploded 3 times.

Oddly after the event I found my funnel about 15 ft away of My Maverick , my prize and joy never had an issue. Why did this happened??? We would almost became the few first fatality of Ford Maverick wonder but unpredictable 2.0 eco boost truck. I’m lost in words regarding of the incident. Is this a serious issue that will soon follow for future Maverick owners ?!?

I am familiar with the post. The fire was caused by the OP. If he had stopped driving he would not have had a fire. And based on the information in his post it is highly suspect that he may have left his own oil fill cap off leading to all that oil loss.

If this was on your '22 it's likely erroneous and is addressed by TSB 23-2059 (previously TSB 22-2493 which included the 'grabby brakes' fix)

Thanks! I’ll bring that up to my Service Manager. Truck goes in on Monday and it looks like they’ll have it for 3-4 days

It cannot be debatable that him stopping would have prevented a fire. He stopped with NO fire and oil everywhere. He continued to drive and had a fire. Preventable 100%. As for the oil cap it is a guess. But it sure fits under his complete description of the events. And being in the business I have seen it many times.
