Two part question:
1. Is the 8F35 set up to allow engine braking in 1st gear? The gears magazine article makes it sound like it can, but there's also this thread from the Bronco Sport forums indicating that it might not let you.
2. Assuming that it physically can and that the computer will let it, has anyone figured out a way to get their maverick to stay in 1st for low-speed engine braking?
I drive a lot of forest roads that require 10-15 mph downhill speeds. No matter what I try I can't seem to get the 8F35 to stay in 1st going down them. Tow/haul, low, tow/haul + low, mud/ruts, etc.
It usually bounces between 2nd and 3rd, and that behavior doesn't change depending on whether I set the modes while stopped or while moving. If I bump the gas I can get it to kick into 1st, but it goes back up to 2nd as soon as I stop accelerating.
I know that I could just use hill descent control, but I'd much prefer the feel and functionality of 1st gear engine braking for this scenario.
