I saw a few posts about mufflers rusting through and what some were doing to mitigate the problem. I'm guessing warranty would not cover the muffler replacement if it has a blowout while still under warranty. Right or no?

Correction: after looking for posts about rusted out muffler, I now think it was "concerns" about the muffler rusting out and not reports of rusted mufflers.

Please share who has had mufflers fail...
I now think I saw "concerns" about the muffler rusting out and not reports of rusted mufflers, so I updated the original post.

Yes if a muffler fails it would be warranty- emission components are a big deal, and it's a safety thing if gasses are leaking under the vehicle.
Mufflers aren't an emission control device.

If your under 36k it should be covered. Things that would not be would be tires,Brake pads, Oil... etc. Things that exhibit wear and tear as you use the vehicle. A muffler that is not defective and was not damaged as a result of Negligence or typical road conditions ( you live in the North East and it is cake in 30lbs of road salt for instance) would be covered.

Basically depends on where you live, if your bumper to bumper is still active, and if you caused damage.

That is as far as my experience but i.live in Maine so other states may have other laws on the matter

Yes they are, but only in a relatively minor way. They are one of the items that create backpressure and all the fuel management tricks that entails. Most places will fail your emissions check if you have altered anything in the exhaust, including the pipe size. Of course they have to catch you first, which is a good reason not to alert the neighbours with a louder muffer.

Thanks to all for your insights on this poser. My takeaways are: (1) maybe/maybe not, and (2) don't worry about it, just deal with it if it happens. Actually, I'm looking into this as one factor in the deciding if I want to buy an ESP. If it's not covered, I doubt that I will get the ESP.

State inspection requirements and what components the federal government considers to be mandated warrantied emissions control devices are different. Muffler is not one of them.

Thanks for the reference material. I was pretty sure it wouldn't be covered.

Very few things are covered in "bumper to bumper" warranties.
The valve stems and wiper blades are not yet oddly they seem to be between the bumpers. I can see them excluding the exhaust system.

Ford is not stupid your muffler should last the 3 year 36 BUT not much more, my truck 22/FX4 has 9k looks like new and going to be 2 years old and the muffler looks like crap has lots of rust, don't expect it to last to long, but as long as theres no holes in it ford wont replace it. things you have to expect when you buy a 30k truck, they weren't going to give you a stainless steel exhaust system.

There was the video on youtube that showed an almost new Mav with heavily rusted exhaust . I think the 2022 had an issue with bad mufflers and pipes.

My 2023 came with exhaust looked new no rust. I spray painted it with high temp paint. The paint stayed on well too. Not hard to do. Used a piece of cardboard to keep the over spray to a minimum. It seems the very first mavs had really crappy exhaust. I saw it on youtube on a few of them,.
