My hybrid startup routine is: foot on brake; parking brake off; selector to D; 5 pushes on mode; two pushes on OK. Just over 9000 miles; 14 months; 42+ mpg. I mostly avoid the interstate, but I am retired and have lots of time.
I am at just under 42 mpg and retired also. I have lots of time so I drive at posted or slightly above speeds. MPG in the Willamette Valley is good, but going up into the Cascades ( Mt.Bachelor, and Crater Lake area ) it drops , as one would think. It might even out after coming back down. Enjoy.

Not doubting you at all, but I have tried slippery mode, and to my uneducated mind it feels like there is not a much regen going on when slowing down...maybe that's just me..
That's the point.

Lowest regen and maximum coasting distance. You want to capture regen only when you really need to stop. Which still will happen when you brake in slippery mode. All the other modes regen brake too much, too often for maximum net MPG.

If this is the case, then 105 octane (available almost everywhere) should make the shudder go away!

I'm willing to give it a shot and boost all the way to 100+ and see what happens but I feel the 93 octane is probably a placebo effect. I'll go to 100+ with low expectations and see what happens.

Don’t use the 105 octane! It’s Flex Fuel which uses more alcohol to raise octane and the Maverick fuel system components are not made for high concentrations of alcohol. You’ll not only ruin fuel system components, but also see lower fuel economy. Up here in the North Country the winter blend has more alcohol and Is one reason that mileage suffers.

I'm going to say probably not..I made 2 trips last week over 20 miles each and averaged over 54mpg on both trips. I have never used eco and never plan to use it. I only use sport or normal and get fantastic mpg! I also always use 89 octane gas.

Find how your dealer made that happen, post it here, and if it's verified as working, I'll give you $200 for finding the solution that thousands of MTC members have been pursuing for almost two years without success. I'll be more than happy to be proven wrong and pony up the money!
The next time I go in for service, I'll try to find out, and it won't cost you a penny.

I am not being snarky, but when we lived in Port Townsend, Wa. for a few years, everyone drove the speed limit...20 mph..unnerving at times and mostly gray haired people..like me. Way before the Maverick, but I am sure I would have matched your 54 mpg there. The city had a lot of cops for some reason and they were on top of everything.

Haven’t read all the responses but IMO “Normal Mode” with light modulations with your foot is my XL sweet spot for economy. The dulling of the accelerator and heavy regen in Eco mode is not optimal in dangerous central Maryland traffic.

Lariat hybrid, like other series, defaults to normal and must be switched each time. There are threads here about mods that keep it in whatever mode you set, but require wiring and modifications.
Apologies to all In this thread! I just picked up my truck after 8 days!😱 The first thing I did was turn it on, switch to eco mode and turn it off. When I turned it on it was in normal mode and I was shocked😱

I drove home in eco mode and it registered 63.5 mpg! I was so psyched about my previous 42.3 mpg average and now I can hardly wait for my 454 mile trip that I will be driving in eco mode!

Thanks everyone for making me check the mode and quit being lazy!

Basically, you learn to drive as is you have an open-topped aquarium full of very expensive tropical fish in the bed of the truck, and you're driving to prevent "sloshing" any of those $$ fish out of the tank when you accelerate / stop.

Eco mode definitely helps my mpg a bit, although most likely it's mainly due to being a huge cruise control fan, and it's much less aggressive getting to the preset speed in eco than normal. I also really like the extra regen feel on off throttle.
You need to try slippery mode for awhile. It does reduce Regen braking on off throttle but will coast much further. Just need to get off throttle sooner, allows power gauge to drop to electric mode position sooner. You will gain the conversion loss incurred by generating electricity, putting into battery then pulling it out and converting back to kinetic energy. You will have to adjust your braking habits and at times be a little more aggressive at the times you want eco or normal or other. If I am at around 60 in slippery and are approaching a 90° turn I will take foot off throttle and push the low button. Will get very close to max Regen apparently without hydraulic braking and make turn only using brake pedal around 20 to 40 mph to fine tune speed at turn. Resume will be relatively aggressive but will get back to speed and drop to electric mode faster than you will be able to think about doing it. ALSO in liu of the low button if in cruise and if the speed limit drops on road you are turning onto reduce cruise to that speed (I have a 65mph to 35 that I do quite often). I set cruise to 35 using the set - button and after that while cruise is braking I will further lower speed with brake pedal and make the turn. The ACC in my lariat you can push resume during the turn but cruise will not accelerate until the wheel is straightened but the XLT standard cruise accelerates while wheel is turned. It is tricky to push the right button in the right truck while rotating the wheel and not taking eyes off the road so I don't do that. Happy cruising....

>>>>>>>>>>>"I have a Lariat Hybrid, and my truck is always in Eco Mode when I start up. My dealer must of set it up some way. I have used slippery to see if I could get better MPG, but unless I was going on a long trip on a highway, I never select another mode. I'm always around 42 mpg that's good enough for me."

And I will chip in another $200!
Is your a 23?

The part ABOVE my saying I would chip in another $200...was a quote from another poster. No, my truck is not in Eco mode when I start it or turn it on. I was disagreeing with the idea that a dealer can do a set up like that..Again, I have to go through the whole process of pressing the button every time I want to get out of Normal and Into ECO.
Clear? My Mav is a 2023.

yes it is.
Maybe they changed to use prior drive used on 23 lariats. I had a sneaky suspicion that it may have not been done before because of having to pass epa mpg tests in all drive modes and only standard mode was done but who knows.

I just use normal mode. I don’t like the braking in slippery mode, and eco mode has too much regen.

I have a 23 Hybrid Lariat (Lux, 360 Co-Pilot). It always starts in Normal. If I want Eco I have to tap the mode button four times.
