I have a 23 Hybrid Lariat (Lux, 360 Co-Pilot). It always starts in Normal. If I want Eco I have to tap the mode button four times.
That's interesting - it's three (3) taps on my '22. Been that way since day one... Out of curiosity, what mode does yours go into after each tap?

I get worse mileage in eco mode. I don't like the heavy/strong regen.

Is your a 23?
My truck (hybrid Lariat) is an early 2022, also goes into ECO mode when I start up. I mentioned that in an earlier blog, and someone asked how I did that. I said it came that way when I picked up my truck.

So...it's not a bug...but a feature!!

I don't know. My 2023 always starts out in Normal. So I press the button, no big deal. For me, I find driving slow in Eco, letting off the "gas" asap and building up enough charge so that after a few blocks ,or more, I can drive in electric mode. I call it coaxing and persuasive Mode.

This highly implies that there is data field probably accessable by forscan that is "startup drive mode"! It's possible that the order of the drive mode in the table just needs to be changed but would be a risky attempt to find out.😂
Looking at it from programmers viewpoint there could be a field used to step through drive modes. Instruction = initial mode equals longest used of prior 6/8/? drive modes (to eliminate reverse or other modes used before shut down).

Well, the other person who made that claim had to post a retraction, because when they went back out to the truck to validate it - guess what? It started up in "Normal" mode, just like 100% of the other Mavericks (and just as the owner's manual states).

So I'll make the same offer to you as I made to the other person: Document how your dealer set it to start in ECO, and if it is reproducible on other vehicles, I'll send you $200. (Another poster offered to match that amount, so it could be well worth your time...)

If it was intelligent enough to "learn" to start in your most-used mode, mine would definitely already be starting out in Slippery, since I select this EVERY SINGLE TIME I drive. Triple-click the Mode switch, and go.

Thank you for posting! I was beginning to doubt my mind🤪
And you still should... His post quoted yours, then offered to match the $200 I offered you to validate the setting is "sticky" and get the info on how your dealer made that happen.

I’m so happy with my gas mileage I don’t care if I remember to switch into eco mode😊

I just went out to check it out, and I stand corrected. you are right! it starts on EV-Coach, not ECO.

That's interesting - it's three (3) taps on my '22. Been that way since day one... Out of curiosity, what mode does yours go into after each tap?
Good question: I'll have to check (I have Normal, Tow/Haul, Sport, and Eco, though maybe not in that order). Early on I figured out that if I tap mode once, pause a sec, and then tap it three times it lands in Eco. My starting routine is:
  • Buckle seatbelt
  • Foot on brake
  • Tap Engine start/stop
  • Tap the Parking brake control down to disengage the brake
  • Tap, pause, tap, tap, tap on the Drive mode to land in Eco
  • Press Ok on the steering wheel a few times until all the worthless popups go away (e.g., parking brake off, seatbelts)
    • Since those popups are in the way I don't really see the mode, altho you can see the different mode colors around the sides of the popups
    • On the subject of the popups: what is Ford's deal on the seatbelt popup? Or the parking brake popup? Tell me when I do something stupid, not when my seatbelt is already buckled. Anyway, the fact that they obscure the display of driving mode is why I developed the tap cadence I use
  • Rotate the dial to D
  • Drive off

Is using the low gear (L) not an option for fuel efficiency? It’s like having one pedal driving(almost). I get great results and it’s easier to regen brake. 3k miles mixed driving, at 41mpg

Ok, so I just checked, and it has the following mode sequence
  • Normal
  • Tow/Haul
  • Slippery
  • Eco
  • Sport
I'll need to clear all the 'Ok' presses out of the way some time to check, but my guess is what's happening is that the first tap highlights the current mode (Normal), and then taps 2, 3, and 4 advance to Tow/Haul, then Slippery, and finally Eco. I suppose that's the next thing to verify.

As much as I want this be be possible with forscan I know that guys had to built switchers or there's a company selling $400 boxes for Fords to auto set drive mode selection.
