I see some videos of people installing dash cams before running the cables and saying they disconnected the battery and some don’t. Any advice on what should do? Is it really necessary to disable it? Can you disable the airbag temporarily without disconnecting the battery?

Dashcam wiring should have nothing to do with the air bag system.
If your running wiring down the A pillar just make sure its not in front of the curtain air bag & follows the factory harness

I know the dashcam wiring has nothing to do with the airbag, it’s the pulling out of the A pillar that’s covering the airbag and the possibility of triggering the airbag when removing it. That’s what I’m asking.

Disconnect the the neg. battery cable.
proverb is "an ounce of prevention is worth not triggering the airbag."
and it's easy.
What do you save by not disconnecting the battery?

I have removed my A pillars many times and never had an issue. The sensor is not in the A pillar, as others have mentioned, run the cable with the existing wires and you will not have an issue.

Use a needle nose pliers to remove the clip that holds the elastic band. Also make sure to bend out the metal clip tabs before reinstalling to prevent rattles. Maybe not a big deal if only removing once, but it doesn't hurt.

Generally speaking, we'd recommend installing it with the engine off and keeping the vehicle off until everything is connected.
We wouldn't start the vehicle while installing the dashcam.
We also wouldn't recommend trying to disable the airbag yourself. Just take your time when routing the cable and make sure it stays clear of the airbag and its wiring.
