Bought a brand new 22 Maverick XLT all wheel drive with trailer package. Currently have about 65000 miles on it. Truck is not driven hard at all and have only trailered a small utility trailer half a dozen times with yard debris locally. Approx. Month and a half ago noticed a growl in the rear end especially noticeable turning right at low speeds. Brought the truck in to the dealer, and they recommended a new differential at $3500 plus taxes. This was based on the noise and clutch material in the differential fluid. Got a second opinion at another ford dealership and the advised a common fix was to flush and replace the fluid. The service adviser told me they have had great success with this procedure in the Mavericks and Bronco sports. As per his advice I had them change the fluid and the problem was solved. The cost was obviously a fraction of replacing the differential. It’s been over a month now and still no reoccurrence of the problem. Curious if anyone had experienced the same issue?

I had the same problem dealership changed the fluid per a service bulletin, I think I read in the past on this forum a lot of Mavericks and broncosports had the same problem

Lots of folks including myself seeing really underfilled PTU's and RDU's right from the factory- Replaced my fluid with OEM Motorcraft and noticed they were at least 15 percent under max fill/drain level- Did this at 17k- All good so far now @ 31K -

It's been reported at the BS Forum as well. Change the RDU fluid seems to be the cheaper way

The consensus from many of us that do our own maintenance is that a "severe duty" schedule should be followed on the RDU, PTU and transmission regardless of how you use it, and change the fluid every 30,000 miles.

IMO, a scheduled drain and fill of the transmission is especially important, because it has an internal fluid filter that can't be replaced unless the transmission is removed from the truck and split open.

This. There's a service bulletin. I'd stay away from dealers that recommend $3500 in service instead of looking at the bulletins first.
