Hi All. Just ordered the Ford Modular DIBL off their site this morning. Hoping I may get it this weekend to install. I have a Tremor Lariat, so will need to cut out both the passenger cubby and the drivers side plug/light areas. Admittedly, I am a little nervous about making the cuts myself, but going to give it a DIY go. I am planning to use my jigsaw to follow the lines, but I am wondering if anyone who has made these cuts themselves would be willing to share any tips or issues you encountered? I found several YouTube videos for installing the liner, but none really that focused on the actual cutting out piece. Any feedback you would be willing to share would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I installed mine last month. Here is my post on it. Is I had to do again, here's what I would do:

1. Use a straight edge and score each cutout lighlty with a utlity knife. Then use a Dremel or rotary tool with a cutoff wheel and you'll get nice clean cuts.

2. In the corners, use the step drill bit to make holes in the four corners of the cut and you'll have nice curved cuts where the straight cuts meet in the corners.

3. Use a table or other support to do hold the side pieces. Clamp them down to prevent moving. Do it outside because it will be messy.

Pay attention to instructions on torque for bolts/screws, especially tailgate cover. Those should only be hand tight. Don't re-use the screws with washer for tailgate cover. Use the new washerless screws and inserts that come in kit.

4. Most important, take your time.

Can't think of anything else at the moment...but I'll chime back in if anything else comes to mind.

EDIT: Another MTC member created a 3D file for a nifty cover for the 12v plugs/covers to give it a nice clean look.

Not sure about cutting it, but when you install the back panel that sits against the other side of the back seats, there is an adhesive strip at the top that sticks to the metal part of the bed, make sure you clean the surface of the bed good with alcohol when you go to install that adhesive part. My factory installed DIBL began unsticking itself after just a few months. Maybe even consider running a bead of silicone caulk on top so water doesn't get in and mess with the adhesive.

I've thought of doing the silicone thing. All the water on the roof comes down and hits that area.

I used a jigsaw to get "close", then I used a Dremel to do the finishing touches. I was hesitant as well. I learned a few things:
1. Don't leave too much at the lower edge of the passenger side cut. I was conservative because it is such a thin strip that is left. But then the tray inside the cubby would not come out easily. So I had to remove the side and cut a little more out.
2. I have a Lariat with the LED light on the driver's side cubby. There is no issue of space there, but the bedliner wall covers all the bolts. I didn't think ahead, so I had to take that side out because I wanted to add wiring for additional LED lighting for the front of the bed controlled by the switch. Taking off the cover let me put wiring in there that goes up and out a place inside the bed and above where the liner ends. You can pop the Ford LED fixture out of the cubby by using a trim tool to press up at the BOTTOM of the fixture with the liner installed (I also did that later), but you have more room to get added wire in if you take the panel off and or do it before putting the side in place.
3. All of the above is made worse if you have the cleat and rail system...as you must take that off first when installing/removing the modular panels.
4. BE VERY CAREFUL not to strip the front floor D-link tiedowns. Get that Torx FULLY insterted. I used a breaker bar to get them loose. A 1/2" rachet was NOT sufficient and it was hard to hold it straight in place so I didn't strip out the Torx.

Thanks so much for the great advice guys! I just ordered a dremel rotary tool to hopefully make this is a little easier/cleaner, seems like it’s the tool of choice, and a good reason to add one to the tool collection! Really appreciate everyone’s tips and insights. Got delivery update that it should be coming Saturday, so depending on weather may try to get this done on Sunday! 🤞🏻

Everyone’s advice helped a ton. Thrilled with how this came together. The Dremel cutting wheel/step bit were great tools for getting close to flawless results. Definitely glad I did this myself! Thanks again for all of your input and tips!

I'm curious if anyone who has done this install has REMOVED the side pockets, and done the cutout in such a way that you then reinstall the pocket AFTER the liner is in, essentially pushing it into/against the liner? That, to my eye, seems a "cleaner," more custom look? Is it even possible? Seems to me I saw a video some time back of a similar install on an F150, and it advised doing just that, removing the pocket before you begin installation. Anyone tried it?
