I may just be clumsy, but does anyone else have issues which accidentally bumping the shifter dial and it going into neutral while driving. I have done this several times when reaching for a drink or something out of the console in front of the shifter. I like the dial shifter but think it should have some kind of catch for each position. Creates the potential for an accident.
My experience made a certain body part pucker.

I had a friend of mine looking at my truck ask me where I got such a fancy cup holder. I have one of those HPR trim rings on the shifter. He did not know that was the way I have to change gears and thought the ring on the cup holder was kind of nice looking. I popped open the door and he looked a little closer and asked, What is that?

Honestly, I don't mind the shifter now. But I find myself getting into the truck at work or my other VW Pickup and pressing on the brake and poking at either the USB adapter in the cigarette lighter spot or the hazard flasher switch in a similar location. Hard to learn new tricks when one is near 7 decades old.

My problem is that when I am concentrating on something else, like backing my trailer or being distracted by children, I tend to spin in the wrong direction. Sometimes I click it to reverse (done it twice) when meaning to go into drive, or shift it into park from reverse instead of to drive. Once I put it into neutral and reved up the engine by mistake. My problem is the buttons behind the shifter. If I leave my phone in my pocket when I am wearing my stretchy shorts (AKA buffet attire) the phone will sometimes start pressing buttons, like changing drive mode, turning off traction control, or turning off auto stop over and over and the dash keeps jumping through different messages faster than I can read them and freaking me out. I need to work on my button cover.
On a side note, speaking of changing the message on the dash faster than I can read them, anyone ever get a chime like there is an issue, but nothing on the dash? I got that today. Was weird.

How about this? You take the phone out of the pocket and put it into one of those areas in front of the shifter?

Yeah, most of the time I do. Every once in a while, if my hands are full, or if I am hopping in real quick, I leave it in my pocket.

Hey, I’m not that old. Sometimes I think it is like a phantom vibration people get when they swear their phone is vibrates when it really doesn’t. Yesterday when it happened, I did get a warning about 5 minutes later that my right trailer light wasn’t working. Turned out to be a connection issue, not a bulb out.

Very concerning that can even be engaged during motion, that's a recipe for disaster.

I bumped it once while putting my phone into the tray below the usb port.

the scary time was when we were on a long trip in heavy traffic and my wife was using my phone to look for a better route and she as she returned it to the tray she bumped it into neutral - I suddenly lost power and took a few frantic WTF seconds to sort it out.

of course then she got mad at me for yelling and swearing in those seconds lol

No problem while driving but have spun it to N unintentionally a time or two when maneuvering.

The detent should be firmer and require more force to turn past it. That would help counting clicks when shifting from D to R etc.

80 lb Lab harnessed in the front seat has a couple of times rotated the dial with her paw to reverse. In a hybrid there’s no problem if you’re moving above 5 mph.
The truck just slows and gives you time to correct. No problem!
