I’ve driven all types of vehicles (old, new, low-riding and high-riding) and have never hand any windshield issue despite driving 25k+ miles every year. I’ve had my Maverick almost 18 months and just last week my THIRD major break of my windshield. The first two times SafeLite was able to “patch” and seal with resin two decently big chips on the lower middle area, and a few days ago out of nowhere a snaking crack in an “S” shape from roughly the top middle down towards the exact middle of my windshield. I opted for the Lariat Package which included a, “deluxe acoustic windshield”, but now I need a 600$ replacement (plus “recalibration” fees). Am I alone on this???

Who knows. Chips are a fact of life. It's pot luck whether a rock will chip a windshield or not. Too many variables to establish cause and effect. Unless you can prove the windshield was defective, you'll just have to bite-the-bullet.

Can't help with the windshield, but recalibration can be done via a Windows laptop, Forscan, and a $30 cable.

Lawn mower threw a rock that chipped the bottom of ours last week. Two gigantic cracks crossing most of the windshield. Truck less than 1000 miles on it. Grrrrr….!

On my second replacement, doesn't take much to crack it.

Back in the nineties I went through three windshields on my Ranger in about 14 months. Since then, only had one road chip on my Nissan coup about 20 years ago. Some vehicles just seem to be "Snakebit". Same with body damage; my '01 Ranger was always picking up dents, although after a time I think I unconsciously got careless and some were my fault.

Try applying paste car wax on that front windshield, 3 or 4 times a year.

It won’t do anything to prevent damage from a direct hit from a large rock. However, it makes for a slick surface for a glancing stone, while preventing pitting. Wax the entire front end too!

I have that “deluxe acoustic” Lariat windshield. Still running my original windshield for my ‘22 Maverick. (Fingers Crossed).

That is why I stay off the Freeways as much as possible. With all the construction in the Phoenix area I have replaced the windshield on every vehicle that I have owned; except for my 24 Lariat (8 months so far).

I was about to ask whether the acoustic windshield was thicker and stronger than the standard windshield?
On the 6th of July, returning from the Grand Canyon a rock hit the windshield. Safelite did their resin repair.
My personal opinion is.
The slant of the windshield. Being more upright.
I think automobile glasses gotten thinner over the years as a way of reducing the overall weight of a vehicle.

That's why I was asking, if acoustical windshields were any thicker?

Hey there. Could you please send over a message with your VIN and estimated mileage? I would like to take a closer look at your windshield concerns on my end.

3 windshield issues in 18 months? Ive been driving 50 years and haven't had that many! No windshield issues so far in 2 years on our maverick. Hope it's not a subpar windshield.

Ask your insurance company about windshield coverage. It was a really cheap addition to mine.

I've got five or six chips on my 22 including one that looks like a little crater. I bought one of those kits to fix it since it's at the bottom of the windshield and doesn't affect my vision. Come to find out it's cratered on the inside of the two layers of glass so I doubt anything can be done with it.
