So this is not specific to my Maverick, but I've seen comments about various dealers in other threads.

I also have a 2018 Explorer. Got a recall notice the other day from Ford. Made appointment to get the recall done. Of course, they have to do an inspection.

Cabin air filter $75. Oh, it was replaced in October of last year.
Air filter. $65. It's in the $20 range on Amazon
Fuel System Cleaner. $16
Ethanol Fuel Conditioner $36
Fuel & Emissons Service $200
Oil Diagnosis and change $342. Was changed about 4 months and 3,000 miles ago

I have a local mechanic I have used for years. The only reason I went to the dealer was the recall.

Oh yeah, and the tire pressure sensor system wasn't working. My local guy said it's probably going to be around $600. Dealer said $1200.

Everyone has their preferences but I only go to the dealership for free warranty issues and free recall issues, if they want to do something else I decline unless it’s inexpensive, otherwise my trusted local mechanic shop that I’ve used for many many years does the work.

They don't stay in business without sales, vehicles or service. You would be surprised how many people would say OK to all of the services quoted.

From a buddy of mine who worked the dealership gig for 20+ yrs in STL area as a finance manager.... service and parts is were a dealership makes the most money after a sale. During the sale, the finance manager is were one wants to be. And of course, dealership owner is always nice if you got that kind of money burning a whole in your pocket.

Total rip-off. I mean $342 for Oil Diagnosis and Change after 3,000 miles.

Exactly. And they wonder why many of them obtain a bad reputation. Thankfully there are some that keep their rates somewhat reasonable. Finding a good dealer for service is as important as finding the right vehicle at a fair price when purchasing if one doesn't have a good trusted local maintenance shop they use for maintenance/repair.

I actually like my dealer. They have always been fair and don't try to screw me. I just got my first service, which was free since I bought my truck from them. Then, a few days later I took my Toyota in for oil and rotation and check things. I think they replaced a filter. It was $70 or so. Same dealer, as thy own the Toyota dealer, too. I have bought my last 3 vehicles from them and have been happy.

That’s a prime example of a good dealer! Reasonable and fair that one would want to do business with. I would feel sure they get a lot of long term return customers for sales and service
