I work with computers. So, I read "different gear ratio" and assumed "different transmission."
Also that should gear chain not drive train. It is spelled out in detail in the shop manual as seen here.

I didn't, I am just thorough to sideline conjecture from others in this case.

I’m fairly certain you can’t just “add a hitch“ aftermarket. They do the hitch welding while the frame is being assembled. I have an XL without the hitch and there is literally just a plastic bumper. I’ve seen reviews where mechanics talked about adding faux tow hooks as well but only for show because they aren’t able to weld to the unibody frame after the fact. I’m no expert, just recalling what mechanics in reviews and people doing mods on their new mavs.
Of course you can add a hitch after. Ive personally done it on cars, SUVs, mini vans, and trucks.

The dealer is hoping you won't buy it.

The local dealer near me was selling at MSRP if you ordered through them, but they had several fees tacked on that amounted to thousands of dollars.

A few weeks later I saw some Mavericks on their lot. They both had a few hundred miles on them, but under 500. One was a XLT and the other was a Lariat. They were asking $20k over MSRP for the "used" Mavericks. I made up my mind that I wasn't ordering through them. I ordered through a dealer 30+miles away.

If I can't trust them, I don't want to deal with them at all.

I work for a big company. In my area alone, we have over 5,000 employees. We have a community chat for things like buying/selling, best deals, and frustrations with other businesses. About two months ago, 5 or 6 people were talking about ordering different vehicles all at one specific dealership in Charlotte that were not 'as ordered'. Just one item here or there changed. Color, drop tow, moonroof.. just one item off from what was on their original DORA sheet when they ordered, and the dealership claims 'Ford must have gotten it wrong'.

If it were a one-off, I could see it. But when this is happening at one dealership, happens multiple times, but none of the other dealers in the area seem to have the same 'incorrectly built' vehicle problem with their stock, it makes you wonder if they didn't change it on you in hopes you would walk away.

I would see if others have had similar order mistakes at that dealership. If so, it may be a problem. Not saying this is the case, but not saying it isn't either. I'd investigate it if you have the patience and fortitude to do so.

So the question you have to ask is how much you need 4k. If you already have a trailer that weighs 3k then don't buy it (or flip it if so inclined). But if you don't plan to tow just want it, it may be OK. You can get a 7 pin adapter, and you can add a trailer brake controller. Those aren't a big deal. Transmission cooler and upgraded radiator are tougher. If at some point you needed to put a 2500 lbs trailer around town a short ways it wouldn't kill your vehicle. But wouldn't plan to do over 2,000 often.

This makes me wonder what is the towing cap of an AWD Mav without the factory towing package?
if you just added a receiver and 7 pin plug

FORD Dealers??
In August 2021 I ordered a basic Hybrid Maverick XL from Tamiami Ford in Naples Florida. Specifying CP 360 and no add on modifications. No changed were made in my order and the vehicle was delivered to Tamiami FORD. The performed illegal modifications to my Maverick and told me I had to pay thousands of dollars more than our original agreement and if I didn't they would return my deposit and payment and sell the Maverick to another buyer who was paying thousands of dollars more.I am 79 years old and only wanted was a basic fuel efficient small pick up to replace my large diesel fully equipped pick up. They returned my deposit and payment, sold my Maverick and refused to honor our original agreement

The tow package includes essentially a different transmission, an upgraded cooler, and a transmission cooler. Not something you can tack on after the fact.

You would have better luck flipping for something closer to what you need.
Where did you see it was a different transmission? AFAIK it's still the same 8 speed as the other ecoboosts. You do get a trans cooler and upgraded radiator/fan along with the higher ratio differential.

OP buy it, order another one and trade it in. To a different dealer.

See follow-up post from me. I saw "different gear ratio" and read "different transmission" because it would be easier for Ford to keep both in stock than to modify it on the line.

But I work with computers. The most complicated amount of auto work I've done is replace a head gasket on a 2000 Dodge Neon...

It's the same engine, same transmission, same brakes. So from that perspective it can pull 4,000. Shoot the vehicle is at least comparable to a Santa Cruz which is rated for 5k.

But the door sticker says 2k. So I'd be very careful going over that. Warranty and liability issues could result. But if you need to move something a couple miles on a one off it's not like the vehicle couldn't safely do it.
