I ordered a maverick with the 4K tow package. The dealer is claiming I agreed to not get the tow package. I said no such thing. But they buried it in some paperwork.

So now I'm trying to weigh my options. Do I get the hitch and just deal with the very limited towing capacity or is there an after market towing upgrade that I can get? I might even just buy the thing and sell it.

Thoughts?

Not that will get you to 4K. I’d buy it and sell it. Don’t let the dealer get it.

What does it say on your order preview printout that you walked out of the dealer with when you ordered the truck?

The tow package includes essentially a different transmission, an upgraded cooler, and a transmission cooler. Not something you can tack on after the fact.

You would have better luck flipping for something closer to what you need.

I’m fairly certain you can’t just “add a hitch“ aftermarket. They do the hitch welding while the frame is being assembled. I have an XL without the hitch and there is literally just a plastic bumper. I’ve seen reviews where mechanics talked about adding faux tow hooks as well but only for show because they aren’t able to weld to the unibody frame after the fact. I’m no expert, just recalling what mechanics in reviews and people doing mods on their new mavs.

is your build ECOboost & AWD? If you had FWD, you can't get the 4K tow. Ford mistakenly allowed the option to add 4k to FWD early on- then caught their mistake and dealers had to notify customers with it on existing FWD orders it needed to be removed or upgrade to ECOboost AWD. I'm guessing that could be part of your situation?

No it is the same 8F35 transmission. The only 2 to 3 pieces that are different are the drive and driven gears and maybe the drive train. Those 2 gears are in the housing in that holds the torque converter and determine the final drive ratio depending how many teeth are on each gear.

You can but not for anywhere near $100 to have Ford put on as an option.

To the O/P question. Take delivery and resell it yourself, don't let the dealer make even more money for the mistake.

I work with computers. So, I read "different gear ratio" and assumed "different transmission."
