I got my first oil change when my truck was one year old and it had 4600 miles on it. It was "the works" which is the oil change, tire rotation, and fluid top off. I also had to get the yearly PA state inspection done. Total with taxes was $152. That includes the ridiculous $11 fee that the state charges for the silly sticker that goes on the windshield. It does take anywhere from 30-45 minutes to perform all the work involved with a PA state inspection so i guess the total wasn't unreasonable. If a tech doesn't do the process correctly and tries to just do a "lick and stick" they can lose their inspection license which would cost them a lot of income.

Naw. Not my first rodeo. I’ll stick with the onboard oil life indicator. Once a year is frequently enough as I’ll never drive over about 5,500 miles a year.
With all due respect, this must be your first rodeo. if you only drive 5500 miles a year, it tells me you do a lot of around town short runs. those will allow moisture to build up in your engine. If the oil monitor is so smart, why doesn't it reset itself after an oil change.

So a receipt for oil purchased at Walmart is enough? Or receipts for service done? I keep the receipts for service. Just wonder how you prove you changed oil yourself.
Doing it yourself yes receipt at Walmart. I also printed out a picture to save of the oil I bought also I use motorcraft oil filter which would be obvious

Another knowledgeable poster that has obviously never turned a wrench for living

Wow the reasoning power of a 4 years old.
You must work at a dealership. I'm sorry if my words offend you, but I'm speaking through experience. If the folks at the dealerships don't like to be thought of in this way, THEY are the ones who have the potential to change the way that customers feel about them. And, you're right......I've "never turned a wrench for a living", but if I did, I would try to be better than what I have actually experienced when I visited them. Thank you for your input.

How would it know unless you tell it? You understand how the OLMs work, right?

But that isn't going to help your argument with Ford. They will say you didn't follow the recommendations. So you PAY to have someone tear it down and prove to Ford that you did the oil changes?
You just need receipts, it'll be easy to see based on dates the average mileage your driving.

To avoid any bs, I buy the manufacturer's filter, just so they can't pull anything about the aftermarket one not being up to spec.

If you don't have time to do the oil change yourself, but you have time to take it to the dealer. That doesn't make sense at all as I find DIY oil change is faster than taking it to the dealer/wait for oil change/drive home. With DIY, once in a blue moon, I would drop off the used oil at the local auto part store.
thanks for the input

When I changed my oil I kept and printed copies of the receipts for the oil, oil filter and also air filter that I installed. Went to my Ford Pass Ap on my phone and entered all my info under Service History. There is an "Add" feature at the top right hand corner. Tap on "Add" and you can manually enter in all the service information. I kept the paper copies of the receipts with all the other service documentation that I received from the dealership on the services they performed in the past.

Agree to disagree. Too wasteful to change every 6 months & definitely not needed.

You do yours, I’ll do mine.
If you drive short trips around town, 6 months is not too soon to change it, but you are right, you do you and I'll do me!
