I stand corrected! Thought they still had a small stake in the company. But indeed, it was a pretty long relationship.
IIRC correctly, the 5-speed on my 1996 Ranger was a Mazda transmission. I think I remember seeing their emblem cast on the side of it.

Yeah, if it had an M5R1 transmission, it was a Mazda but pretty much everything else was Ford.
I've owned a few vehicles related to that joint venture: 1993 & 1994 Ford Probe GTs (same chassis, powertrain & suspension as Mazda MX-6, different bodywork and interior). I still own a 2012 Ford Focus which is all Ford except the 2.0 Duratech which is a Mazda MZR with Ford Ti-VCT. The Ecoboost Maverick is part of that same bloodline, but the engine is 3-4 generations away from the MZR roots.

Yup! Had the 2.3L Lima engine. Dual spark plugs actually. Only had a whopping 95 HP lol. But yes, that's the transmission, M5R1. Man than truck was a dog but kept me from getting tickets lol.
And nice!! It's pretty cool to track the lineage of these vehicles and powertrains.
Yeah, I had a turbocharged Lima in a 1983 Thunderbird TurboCoupe at the same time my girlfriend (now wife) had the base Lima in a 1988 Ranger. Both 5-speeds. They were nothing alike, as you can imagine. Weight played as big a role as the turbo in the difference.
