These are both OEM fender vents, not printed. For V1.0, I used a grinder with a flap wheel to remove the "block-off panel" from the backside, then fitted a piece of aluminum hex mesh that I found on Amazon. Once color-matched, I glued the mesh to the backside with J-B Weld Plastic Bond.
For V2.0, I opened them up to the first "ridge" to give them a bit more "open" area. I roughed them in with a Dremel and a cutoff wheel, then finished with the grinder and flap wheel, fit a new aluminum insert, and glued with J-B Weld Plastic Bond.
Nice work

And the lariat text accent was painted?

Looks great.

All the aftermarket vents look tacky in my opinion -- they try too hard while also failing to consider the design language of the truck. Tastefully modifying OEM parts in the classy way to do it.

They're to decrease air flow to improve aerodynamics.

Even adding places for air to escape can have effects on the aero. Those little "anti-mud-flaps" in front of the front wheels are probably .5-1mpg increase.
I said exactly that. They limit air intake at the front of the car. That is better for aerodynamics.

There is not some direct flow path for air to vent out of these things, so there is nothing to worry about. They will help with heatsoak when stopped, as they will be an outlet for the hot underhood air that otherwise has nowhere to go.

Those things at the front have nothing to do with mud. They deflect air from hitting the moving tires, which are horrible for aero.

On the white ones, the "Lariat" was painted on because the vents that I bought for the experiment were for a BAP Lariat. The orange "Lariat" on V2.0 is factory; my Lariat has the Tremor package.
Just to be clear--I'm not making these to sell. The white V1.0 will be in the Marketplace in a few days.

I just finished Version 2.0 of my customized fender vents. I used my original Lariat trims for the new, updated ones. Version 1.0 was kind of a "proof of concept" project. The new versions have a much larger cut-out, and I'll probably leave these in the original textured black finish as opposed to color-matching them. The originals will be posted for sale in a few days if anyone is interested, along with a set of the Air Design ones.

Looks great, but I wouldn’t want that open vent to let water into the internal body works.

Trust me--these are far from sealed to the body from the factory.

How did you create these? 3d print? Would you be willing to share the file if so? What is the insert?
I think you did an amazing job man! Really well done. I have not seen a better alternative, hell these make the OEM look like a 3rd party product.
Sweet deal 🙂

Noice!!! Good old fashioned ' tooling on original parts ' . Love it!. Thanks for showing your work. I am inspired now.

I like that. Is the hole behind 🤔 super noticeable. I am thinking about off roading and dust and mud.
