Given that you have a tow ball in the hitch there is a very good chance you have frame damage. Is the bed floor damaged? If so that's an expensive repair. Part of it is that so many parts are on backorder and can take months to get. Insurance companies don't want to give you a loaner that long because it's expensive, so it's cheaper sometimes to just total the vehicle and pay you out.

To me the damage doesn't look that bad to have the vehicle totaled, however, I am not able to see the underside if there is frame damage. I guess it doesn't take much anymore to have a vehicle totaled. The good news is that there was no mention of any injuries.

Its all about the salvage value, lets just say it cost X to fix it and the truck is worth Y and they get a salvage bid that's very HIGH, its easier for them to total it and not have to worry that the shop will call them back for more money when they find more damage, why take the chance. people pay very high prices for wrecks like this, even though they get a salvage title after fixing them. Its all about saving BUCKS for the insurance co. Buy a new one!! I hope I explained that OK.

I am not OP but when I took my lariat hybrid to Ford certified body shop they had to check truck out prior to doing any work and then again to document that all sensors, etc were repaired. That alone added to cost. My driver's side rear quarter panel was pushed in from the side the the compression of the fender and the bending of support brackets pulled a 3/8" bend in the crash bar towards the front of truck. no damage to "unibody frame". The removal of the quarter panel required complete replacement of the gas filler assembly due to Ford specs. The black rear bumper cover was scratched and was $799, (may have had the blind spot sensor included, not sure). There was spot on sidewall which showed impact so a new tire was furnished. The rim had to be sent to be checked for damage which that was something like $125 or more, don't remember. Came back clear so did not get a new lariat rim replacement. They welded something which required a spray in bed liner $799 plus $700 to tow truck to and from that. Total repair for that was $12722.77. will get my truck back in couple days.

Wow
When did this happen?
Jan 4th, 2025. Wife at red light. Dude in F-150 rushing to make light made LEFT TURN hitting some gravel on asphalt effectively doing a 180 in 60-80 feet and actually almost stopped. She did not notice if the maverick was moved sideways any at all. That dent pulled the very end of the crash bar forward about 3/8 inch with no movement where it bolts to frame area.
