I’m 5 10 and wife is about 5 8. Have an infant, probably 2yrs out from another kid. Keep my order that’s still unscheduled or should I move on?
I'm 5'11, you'll have a ton of space.

I'd keep it. There are a couple of videos on YouTube that shows it works. I'm 5' 10" wife is 5' 6" kids seats are fine back there but my kids are bigger now so forward facing. If I had to do it over again I'd take the Maverick over the CR-V. Just keep the infant on the wife side and make sure to get one of those removable infant seats with a base so you can click in and out. Cost a fortune but well worth it. By the time your second one is here your older one will be able to do forward facing. So you will be set. Being able to throw stinky stuff in a bed and not having it trapped inside a SUV would have been super nice when mine were that little.

For the price and MPG, no real reason to get a new midsize truck vs. a full-size truck. The Mav is definitely in the compact category on it's own. I'm 6'4" and can sit behind myself in the Mav, but I always sit really straight up and close to the wheel in anything I've driven...depending on how you're built that's just not a comfortable option for everyone. Enjoy the space of that new truck!

tl;dr: Ordered a Maverick, won the getting built & delivered lottery, loved driving it, walked away.

If you're tall, AND you have a young family, this post's for you.

After wringing my hands about the Mav for most of 2022, since there was no way to test drive one I decided to jump in and place an order for a hybrid Lariat Lux while the banks were open in Sept. After seeing the terrible discrepancy between how many hybrids were ordered, and how many Ford could build, and re-evaluating the importance of AWD for my situation, when ford announced in January that we could switch platforms I went for it.

Because I never received any communication directly from Ford (not even an order confirmation email), once/week I jumped on the Ford CS chat and asked for my order status. Answer was always the same: Unscheduled. I watched the threads here each week, getting the inside scoop on what kind of scheduling was taking place and noting how far out they were getting scheduled for the folks were lucky enough to get a build week. Started to get pretty discouraged.

After the first week of March, I stopped contacting Ford CS every week--figured I'd save myself the disappointment. Then after a few weeks I went ahead and checked again, to see if maybe I'd gotten scheduled on a lark. You know what they said? "Congratulations, your Maverick is AWAITING SHIPMENT." Could'a knocked me over with a feather... And sure enough, less than 14 days later it showed up at my dealer.

So off I went to go check it out. And you know, that 2.0L EB engine is a pistol. The truck was well optioned, fantastic to drive, and looked amazing. BUT... I'm pretty tall being at the far end of 6'3", and my wife is 6'0", and we have 6 and 7 year old boys. I'd read all the forum posts and watched probably every single Maverick video on youtube, and I was optimistic that the 4 or us would be able to make it work, since we have a large SUV as our other vehicle.

Sadly though, we just couldn't. With our boys in booster seats and me in a comfortable seating position to drive, the son behind me had his feet cocked sideways to keep from digging them into the back of the driver's seat. There was no way he'd be comfortable for the year+ he'd still need the booster. It was a little better on the passenger side since my wife could scoot up a little bit, but ultimately it was just too tight. And I'm a little beat up about it, tbh. I had super high hopes. If I was single or we were childless and planning to remain that way, I think the Maverick would be the perfect vehicle. But at this time and place of life for me, it came up short. (ba-dum-tss).

Sadly, every "mid-size" truck on the market has even LESS room than the Maverick, so I wound up lighting my bank account on fire and brought home a Silverado 1500 with the 3.0L Duramax engine. It's fantastic and I love it, but in the back of my mind I'll always wonder about the Maverick that got away...

Your kids are 6 & 7, and still in booster seats?

If it makes anybody feel better. I'm 60 years old, 6'6" at 350 lbs and I can sit behind me in the back seat without discomfort. I can't speak for those of you who have car seats to contend with, but just to sit in the back is doable. I have a 2012 focus that I can squeeze into in the back if I had to, but it is not ideal as you can imagine.

I have not test drove a Maverick but I have sat in one. I have recently test drove a 23 Escape. Completely redesigned and very impressed. The upgrades in screen size and interior were very well done. They are not the same but very similar in specks and if you need or want to have an idea of space sit in an Escape. Just make sure the back seats are moved all the way up because that would be closer to the space in the back. Also if you are worried about engines and if you chose the right one, the 23 Escape offers both to try. I am 5 7" with a 33 inseam and I had a bit of trouble in the Maverick but not enough to not order one. However the Escape has a flat bottom starring wheel that allows more space to go from gas to break. My dealer is really big and had a lot of orders with less allocations than they had last year. I was told when asking about extending my high millage lease, that my chances of getting my Hybrid lariat was very slim. He hinted I should try the states lottery because I would have better chances. I chose to get an Escape ST-Select hybrid with tech package and keep my Maverick on order. FYI on the Escape I have A plan and had a private offer that reduced the price by enough to feel good about my choice. Plus I pick it up next week, not 6-8 months or never.

You're a bit taller than me, but I have an 8, 6, and 4 year old and they can fit in the back of the Maverick just fine. I have them all in the back of my Model 3 and they have plenty of leg room.

I think it comes down to driving position. My Dad is an inch taller than me (6'3"), drives a Tahoe, and pretty much sits in the backseat when he is driving. Honestly, he sits so far back I'm not sure how he reaches the pedals and the strain it puts on my neck to try and reach the wheel is laughably bad - but, it is comfortable for him.

If Dad were driving a Maverick - there would be no space behind the seats for anything.

I would also question a Maverick, or any compact/midsize truck for that matter, if you're raising kids. Always drove F150's when my boys were young, up until they were driving on their own. The room inside a (modern) fullsize crewcab is insane. I guess it just depends on your comfort level, and physical size of course. Plus the FE of the Powerboost F150 is really not that much worse than the Mav. Dunno about the Cheby, I would never drive one. 🤠

If your primary concern is going to be being able to fit inside, you could use the current model Ranger as a proxy. The cabs are very similar in size. While this won't give you any real idea as to how hard/ easy it is to get into and exit the vehicle or driving dynamics, it will at the very least give you a reasonable idea of how well you will fit once inside.

I used Turo to rent a Maverick in my area. In my opinion it’s worth the money to actually take the vehicle out for the day and see how it actually performs in daily tasks. As for me I don’t have kids or tall people problems so it’s a good fit.
