Hi there,

I'm looking to fit a board in the rear slot and was wondering if anyone has found the correct board width that would be flush with the height wheel well/ tailgate in the upright position.

I'd like to use this board as a cross piece to provide extra support when hauling plywood (similar to the 2x8 i have in the front horizontal slot) so the plywood doesn't bend too much when I strap it down.

Thanks

Why would you want the tailgate upright when there's an additional lower tailgate position to level it with the flat board (labeled "cut length of 46") in your pic?

Nothing more is needed.

good luck

Mine is at 6-1/2", since I have a bed mat.

I'm so confused... LOL

OP stated he was looking for the "width" of the board in the rear slot with the tailgate in the "upright' position.

Perhaps he was looking for the 'height' of the board with the tailgate in the "middle' position.

I used a 2x10 and hinged it in the middle so I could get it in and out easily (full length would not fit do to the rails for my bed cover. I just slide a metal fence bracket over the hinge gap and drop a 10-penny nail through the hole to keep it from sliding (keeps the 2x10 in a locked position. Cut a little rubber weather stripping and wrapped it around each lower end to make the fit snug. Painted it black to match the bed liner and "presto", a heavy duty easy to get in and out bed divider ;)

Hey guys, sorry for the confusion. I did mean the tailgate in the "middle" position (flush with the wheel wells).

The width of the board is relevant because when on its side in the slot, it becomes the "height" I'm trying to get flush with the previously mentioned parts of the bed (a bit confusing because I'm talking nominal width of the lumber like a 2x6 or 2x8). The weird part is that slot is angled at the bottom so I wasn't sure where the board would try and rest (depending on how its cut)

I just use boards in the three horizontal slots in your picture when I'm hauling with the tailgate in the middle position. I guess not having to pull out your rear divider if it was too tall would be convenient, but it isn't part of my long load carrying setup.

For floppy sheet goods I went another way. Screwed together some 2x's, so 6 1/2 tall, and set it in place it in the center of the bed before loading.

If you know anyone with a 3D Printer you can print these Brackets and use 5/4 x 6 Radius Deck Board. I printed them for my 24 Lariat Tremor which has the horizontal rails and I'm able to slide in trickly in one piece. Here is the link for the file: https://www.printables.com/model/809536-maverick-cap-for-1-bed-divider
