I’m wondering if anyone has experienced this similar problems to what I’ve had happen with their Maverick or any car really. Looking for an idea of what is going on and to understand what my level of concern should be. This is a 2.0L EcoBoost 2022 AWD Maverick.

The gauge for my engine coolant temp typically lives at 3 out of 8 bars. It will eventually briefly get to 4 bars, but never stays there for very long. I’ve attached a video of this, to illustrate what is going on. I have noticed a very brief loss in power once, but it is possible that it was more related to relative traction at that time.

This video is after 45 minutes of driving at freeway speeds in ~45 degree weather

Any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated.

To be expected, especially if you're feathering the gas, on level ground, running the heat, have the upgraded cooling on the FX4/tow/etc. I see the same on mine.

Why would anyone be concerned over an engine cooling? When it's in the operational range, lower is better. OVERheating is a concern.

I think it's because a lot of folks are used to seeing a nondescript gauge for temps, me included before I got my Maverick.

Mine does this. Only during the colder months though, truck still runs fine and warms up so I don’t pay much attention to it.

Always four bars on my Ecoboost. Even in 4 degree weather.

Perhaps the temp display sensor is more sensitive than in previous cars that OP had, and displays temp changes faster than they are used to.

There's an optimal temperature for the engine to run at. Too cool is also not great for engine operation and efficiency although not as bad as overheating.

Operating range is operating range.

I had a VW GTI years ago that kept cooking off when I would coast, but for more than OPs situation. After a few weeks of noticing it I threw an engine code. Turned out the thermostat was stuck open so I had to replace it. So it can be a sign of something wrong, even if cool isn't bad.

You're probably operating normally around the threshold between 3 and 4 bars, and we have no way of knowing how much hysteresis Ford put into the gage software, if any. IMHO this (terrible resolution) is the main problem with digital indicators. They probably have much higher resolution available internally but had to dumb it down for the display. An actual number would be nice...

After a cold soak overnight.
Ideally, they would all be the same.
But as they say, "close enough" for operation.

www.scangauge.com

I have no affiliation with them, I just like them and have had one in every vehicle since 2006.

You can toggle between about 75 parameters. 4 at a time, 5 at a time, or 9 at a time. And can keep 27 presets. (3 screenfuls of 9)

And you can make it any RGB color you like. Touch screen.

One of the features I under utilize is:
You can set alarms for any parameter then it will flash and beep if temperature of transmission exceeds x (user defined) or speed exceeds y and so on.

For example: If Ford says electric motor temperature of 285°F is permissible and there is no warning on the dash until 285°F but you want to be more conservative, you can set your own "early warning" to say 250°F or whatever you like.

Jack, is -7 motor torque when it's in regen, like going down a hill, or something else?
