We are about to get hit pretty hard by this arctic blast down in TX. UPR recommends checking catch cans in anticipation of freezing weather, in order to protect the system.

I was doubtful I'd find anything in my cans, as I just dumped them at 7,447 miles. Current odometer reading is just 7,788 miles, but figured I'd stay on the safe side and look what I found... quite a bit in there already, as the photos show.

Friendly reminder to check your stuff if you expect to be impacted by the weather, and this also illustrates the importance of catch cans for this type of motor. I'll be checking mine more regularly than I thought, even when temps improve!

By the way and FYI for those who don't know, my Ecoboost is Burger Tuned and I've been running on map2 with 93. Everyone's cans will capture blow-by uniquely, depending on different variables (mods, driving style, environmental conditions and so forth).

By the way and FYI for those who don't know, my Ecoboost is Burger Tuned and I've been running on map2 with 93. Everyone's cans will capture blow-by uniquely, depending on different variables (mods, driving style, environmental conditions and so forth).
Ok, I'm not impressed. Its got an aggressive mapping kit on it that is essentially a race-only setup created for European-only fuel. You're running higher boost at higher revs than factory, having to run high-test fuel to compensate for the abnormal advance and cam curves, running waay off the pollution curves, and probably redlining it long before the oil is up to operating temperature. Good luck making it last for even the warranty period. This tells the normal owner nothing about how much blow-by oil is in the catch-can on an unmodified engine. Other owners report almost nothing in the can, so I'd bet you broke a ring or something to get that much.

The cans are performing as designed - capturing a combination of vapors (water, fuel, & oil). I didn't volumetrically measure contents this time, but they're catching indeed.

The comments from fossil and RedRider strike me as textbook fear mongering or possibly something else, which I'll reluctantly outline further below.

The Burger Mav map2 is relatively conservative in contrast to what some of our more adventurous fellow club members are running with their respective tunes and power adders.

My Maverick runs well, and I will continue my quest for more power with a downpipe (maybe even catless - I'm sure at the dismay of the previously mentioned Hybrid owner who mentioned pollution curves and "European fuel," etc...), WMI integration, a larger turbo with even more boost - things like that, as funds allow.

Maybe I'm being trolled by individual(s) who have sensitive egos. I've seen this behavior before, where someone will chime in with what they think might be a helpful message (OP), only for a listener to incorrectly feel as though their intelligence has been challenged or insulted. This ultimately results in that individual being motivated to rebut the original messanger with baseless claims, causing said message to be lost in diatribes and distracting commentary (i.e. you fried a ring, and you even see that warranty concerns are brought up, for which people like me have long forgotten about after committing to the quest to mod, etc...).

The aforementioned is exacerbated when the listener/reader of the original message feels or interprets they're being talked to parent-child, causing them to subconsciously revert to a defiant state, for lack of a better term. Happens a lot on the internet and it can even be seen at times more uncomfortably IRL/in-person. Sorry, getting a bit philosophical.

Anyway, TLDR, just wanted to say it might be a good idea to empty your catch cans periodically, and especially before freezing weather, if your Mav is so equipped.

Admin, please feel free to lock thread if you would like, because this probably won't contribute much more to the club at this point.

99.9% of what those stupid things 'catch' is water. A lot more condenses when it's cold.

Hey, Iconic Silver, I appreciate the post and well intended warning about the potential freezing of our catch cans. C'mon fellers, no need to attack the guy or second guess what he does with HIS truck. Sheesh. Water is going to expand 1/11 when it freezes no matter whose can it's in. I think I better keep my Maverick in Baja for the winter.... ;-)

What is a CATCH CAN? If it is something you pee in, I would recommend a portable urinal with a tight lid. I think that we are expecting TOO MUCH from Ford.

Makes sense , always more condensation in everything throughout weather with moisture changes .
let us know how the downpipe works out , planing on doing that soon on the pre runner build tremor!
