I wonder if COBB can activate an accessport from another ecoboost Ford to work on the MAverick. I still have my accessport from my Focus RS, so it's really convenient to just get it updated/flashed to work with the Mav, hjopefully at a reduced cost of some kind. I need to ask them..
Yes, we can do that - remotely too! Contact our customer support team at [email protected] or reach out via phone.

Thanks for the clarification. I sent messages to support a few days ago but have not received any reply as of yet. I'll try to give you folks a call tomorrow to sort it out.

mine came also, but it’s so cold and icy here I’m just going to wait.

out of curiosity, how does the tune effect drive modes like slippery etc?
All drive modes will work just as they did from the factory. Drive modes will only be changing, at most, 3 different things:

1. Throttle translation - how sensitive, touchy, or lethargic is throttle response
2. Transmission shift schedules, torque converter schedules - when do upshifts and downshifts happen, when does the torque converter clutch unlock/slip/lock.
3. Stability control/traction control - how much wheel slip is allowed before power reductions are made and/or braking force is used

All drive modes use the same torque targets, torque limits, ignition timing, fueling, etc. So no matter which drive mode you're in, 100% throttle equals 100% power.

Is launch control available for AP?
Not yet, but we're working on a solution! We've implemented a completely software-based transbrake on 6R80 and 10R80 applications - really cool set of features and safeties with that system. We'll see just how much launching abuse the 8F35 can handle and will report back.

COBB OEM+ and COBB Sport also turn this 8-speed into a 7-speed! 2nd gear is so close in ratio to 3rd that it really isn't worthwhile in any driving condition to use, especially with the extra torque. The factory transmission tune nearly never uses 2nd anyways - almost feels wrong for Ford to call it an 8-speed!
Holy crap, I never noticed that. Does it use 2nd gear for towing? Whatever the conditions for it to select 2nd, I'm sure it isn't shifting into 3rd after. It has to be 1->2->4 or 1->3->4, never 1-2-3-4.

Upshift schedule tables determine shifts based on accel. pedal position (APP) and transmission output shaft speed (OSS). In normal, tow, and snow/wet drive modes, you'll only see a shift from 1st to 2nd if APP is between 0 and 6%, and OSS is below 350RPM (which, depending on final drive and tire size is around 7MPH. Anything more than 6% throttle and you'll get a 1-3 shift instead. Sport mode will never, under any conditions do a 1-2 shift!

Silly question- Would the access/port be able to eliminate traction control and let all wheels spin with power as needed without the nanny bringing things to a stop ?

At the moment, our OTS maps will not modify factory functionality of traction control. It'll take more investigation to see what sort of TC/stability control system changes are possible within the ECU - other modules that we don't reflash, like the ABS module, likely play a role as well.

It would definitely be nice to see some more boost on the launch! I've pulled a 1.94 60' at the track and many 1.97-1.99 on the street. I'd love to see 1.7 or low 1.8s, but this may be the saving grace of the 8f35, so I can't complain too much, lol. Glad to see you guys getting on board!

Thanks for sharing knowledge. So 2nd gear is really only very light acceleration, that's practically idling at 6% throttle input.

Our marketing material is a little confusing for this - unlike other automatic transmission equipped EcoBoost Fords that we support like the Gen2 Raptor and Gen2 F150 3.5 that use separate modules for the engine and transmission (ECU+TCM), the Maverick uses a single module to control both the engine and transmission. The OTS maps that come with the Accessport have multiple versions/combinations of engine tunes and transmission tunes. Stage1 87 OCT, Stage1 91 OCT, and Stage1 93 OCT maps all come in three different transmission tune versions:

1. Simulated Stock TCM - except for torque limits and a few necessary calibration changes needed for the 8F35 to be happy holding the extra power/torque, this is a factory transmission tune.

2. COBB OEM+ TCM - slightly modified upshift schedules to hold lower gears for longer, more responsive downshifts, slightly quicker shifts, and the removal of backout upshift inhibit. Drives like it should have from the factory!

3. COBB Sport TCM - more aggressive upshift schedules, more responsive downshifts, modified torque converter operation for greater powertrain response, quicker shifts, and removal of backout upshift inhibit. This is definitely my favorite transmission tune of the three - still nets great fuel economy, but feels way more intuitive from behind the wheel. I daily the Stage1 93/COBB Sport TCM tune on my personal Maverick.

This is incredibly helpful.

@COBB Tuning If we already have an in-line Auto Stop-Start eliminator installed will it conflict when the AP flashes the tune? Do we simply turn off the option before flashing? Etc.? Thank you for sharing this knowledge so quickly with us.

i am very happy with the OEM+ TCM so far but now after reading this i have to try out the SPORT TCM

To avoid unnecessary headaches, I would recommend uninstalling that eliminator device prior to flashing the ECU with the Accessport. You can use the Accessport to disable the Auto Stop/Start feature once installed via the 'Tune' --> 'Adjustments' menu!
