Ford Maverick Cobb Accessport Review on Maverick EcoBoost 2.0 20220320_142603

I got my Cobb Accessport this past Monday. I thought I would post a quick review.

This is my 2nd Accessport. I had one on my 2019 Mustang 2.3 Ecoboost 6 speed manual several years ago and was happy with the results.

I was glad to see them finally release one for the Maverick. I purchased mine through Panda Motorsports.

My truck is a 2022 XLT AWD without the 4K tow package. I got it in March 2022 and it is my daily driver. Even though it is my DD it only has 4,300 miles on it because my workplace is 5 miles from home.

I use 93 BP fuel in my truck exclusively. I have also had a drop in K&N filter in the truck since day one.

I downloaded the 93 octane tune with the OEM+ TCM. It took about 30 minutes. The majority of that time was the Accessport backing up the stock computer file. The actual tune downloaded pretty quickly.

The first thing I noticed when taking it out after tuning it was how much better the transmission felt. It was so much smoother and didn't lug around as much, especially at slower speeds.

The truck is more throttle responsive and you feel the extra torque in normal driving without getting on the throttle hard. I drive my truck in normal mode 95% of the time.

I did put the truck in sport mode and did a 5 to 70 MPH jaunt and it felt much stronger than before tuning it!

I haven't noticed any loss in MPG this week, neither have I seen an increase in MPG. My daily commute to work has 10 traffic lights and about 2 miles of 25-35 MPH speed limits and about 3 miles of 45 MPH speed limits. I usually average about 24-25 MPG in warmer weather and 22.5-23.0 MPG in colder weather.

The few highway trips I have taken in my truck has netted 30-32 MPG before tuning. I haven't gotten it out on the open road since tuning as i worked 6 days and 63 hours this week. Today is my only day off and it is pouring down rain.

So my first week leaves me very happy with my purchase! It is probably worth it just for the difference in the transmission tuning and the better overall feel in daily driving. The WOT in sport mode is really fun and is just icing on the cake!

I can't wait to get some decent weather and some deserted roads to really see how it does. I'm getting ready to order me a Dragy so I can see how quick the truck really is.

Also, since I ordered through Panda Motorsports I will be getting a free 93 octane custom tune from them which is supposed to offer more power increases than the OTS tunes already loaded on the Accessport.

Nice- Did the kit come with the drop-in air filter ?

Very coincidental that I just posted my 'review' of my Cobb AP install on separate threads about 2 minutes ago and then read yours! My experience and review is almost the exact same as your's which is great to see - consistency is what we expect from Cobb.

Why did you decide to go with the OEM+ TCM tune instead of the Sport TCM?

Thanks!

It didn't.

I had ordered my K&N filter for my truck late 2021 while I was waiting to get it. I installed it when I got home from the dealership.

I know when I got my Accessport for my Ecoboost Mustang I ordered directly from Cobb and they had a a package deal with the Accessport and a drop in filter. The filter in their package is very comparable to the K&N, just a different color filter material. I seen you had asked about that in another thread.

That is funny that we posted about the same time! I knew from another thread that we both did the same thing and returned our Panda Power Module for credit towards the Accessport.

Glad to hear you like yours as well!

I decided to start with the OEM+ TCM and see how I liked that. I will check out your review with the Sport TCM. I might try that out and compare the two when I have more time.

I also just ordered a Dragy 2.0 from Amazon. It is supposed to arrive this Wednesday.

Hopefully if the weather is alright next weekend I can get a couple of 0-60 and 1/4 mile tests on the truck.

Thanks- Was wondering if you noticed any mileage loss with the K/N and a little more intake sound ?

I have ran K&N filters on most of my cars for the last 30 years. Always have had good luck with them.

I didn't notice any increase in intake sound with the filter change.

I got my Dragy in this week and was able to go out and find some deserted road to try my truck out.

13.93 with an off the shelf Cobb 93 octane tune and a drop in K&N filter. Everything else is stock.

The truck had a 1/2 tank of gas and I weigh 235 pounds.

I'm very happy!

I have a ‘23 Tremor, which to my knowledge doesn’t come with sport mode.
I installed the OEM+ tune today, but can if I install the Sport TCM, would it work right?

yes these TCM tunes are applied by default and then drive modes modify from there.

btw you can easily turn on sport mode with forscan, but if you don't, you can experiment with sand or tow/haul mode. normal drive mode will shift quite a bit better with sport TCM and Cobb tuners can improve further.
