Ideal world a modified 2.0 with the hybrid's e-cvt? Nah, I'm just kidding. But that is something that concerned me about the Ecoboost. The hybrid has transmission tech very similar to Toyota, whereas the 8 speed in the Ecoboost was developed by GM I believe as a partnership between GM and Ford. Same partnership that gave GM ford's 10 speed.
Kinda gm made a 9 speed in partnership with ford ... An then ford redid it as an 8 speed. At least that's what I've heard. I've never driven a ctv that felt right. I think a ctv would be the wrong route with he Ecoboost.

I read the same... Ford didn't like the 9 speed GM trans so they re-engineered into the 8 speed with hardly anything in common with the GM trans

And so it goes
