Gentlemen,

Got what seems like a unicorn for you guys, can’t find anyone else with this issue.

I’ve got a 23 Maverick Lariat FX4, 2.0 with AWD. 37k miles and this issues has been happening for maybe 2-3k miles, hasn’t gotten worse but hasn’t gotten better.

When I start to accelerate from a stop at maybe between 30-50% throttle, going from 2nd into what I assume is 3rd gear, I SOMETIMES get a jerk, but I’m able to recreate it with by feathering the throttle right every single time.

This clunk/jerk happens sometimes just before going into 3rd. Sometimes right as it goes into 3rd or sometimes right after going to 3rd. It’s a feint clunk but can be louder if I’m starting at the bottom of a hill and going up. I don’t have the clunk when coming to a stop either. This is only when accelerating from a dead stop of a few MPH. The clunk does sounds like it’s coming from behind me. There are no other symptoms but this clunk/very small jerk.

I’ve tried doing an AWD relearn and PDU relearn on forscan with no noticeable changes. There is nothing loose in the car either I’ve checked everything.
I just did an RDU oil change last night and the oil seemed fine, there was material on the drain plug but nothing super crazy from what I was able to tell referencing videos of what others have done.

Things I haven’t tried are, recreating this with traction off or in a different mode. Doing a PTU or transmission fluid change.
As far as I’m aware it’s the original fluid in the car, I purchased this car with a light front end hit off auction and fixed it myself.
(I have autobody/mechanical experience) but the car came with a branded title so I don’t have access to the original powertrain warranty.

Curious if anyone has had anything similar happen? And if so, what was the issue? Hopefully you guys can help me narrow this down.

I have a 2023 Ford Maverick all-wheel-drive and I’m kind of in the same boat with the same issues.
Mine makes a noise when accelerating also.
Dropped it off at Ford yesterday at first the tec, couldn’t replicate it. After speaking with my advisor, they finally heard the noise.
They thought it was a rear differential at first took that apart and it's not damaged or Broken. Now they’re saying they think it’s something to do with the transmission.

My advisor said something about him fixing for rear differentials already this year but apparently my issue was unrelated.

If your Maverick is like mine (2024 FX4 XLT) it NEVER even engages 2nd gear. I use Forscan Lite to monitor the gear engaged and I have never been able to get it to engage 2nd. Not in any drive mode, at any speed, under any condition. Not even with L engaged.
Probably doesn’t have anything to do with your issue, just throwing that info out there. I sometimes wonder if low speed accreditation would be smoother if 2nd gear was used.
