Is anyone here doing clear flood mode after an oil change and just cranking the motor to circulate oil before starting?

Ive done this with all my previous vehicles to help prime the oil filter.

Im having an issue where it only works half the time with my Maverick. Half the time it will ONLY crank like its supposed to, the other time the Maverick starts, its so weird.

Ive tried every variation of Fully depressed throttle/depressed throttle with depressed brake/depressed throttle and parking brake, ect.

Can anyone try flood mode with theirs and let me know what happens?

Nope. I just put oil in the filter before I screw it back on to hurry things up by a fraction of a second. Very, very short time after starting the engine that there is lack of oil either way.

I also pre-fill the filter. But the inconsistency of the clear flood mode is strange to me. Curious if other people are experiencing the same thing.

I've never bothered. If you put oil in the filter there is no need.
I get that. I'm just trying to figure out if Flood mode is inconsistent like mine for other owners.

I'm not sure why no oil while spinning from the starter is any different from no oil while spinning from combustion. Is this an undocumented feature? These types of features are notorious for not working when you want them to.

Nope - do you start your vehicle in flood mode every morning after letting it sit over night?

I change my oil in about 15 minutes and there is plenty of residual left.

There are people in our world who drive their cars 100's of thousands of miles without that question ever crossing their minds. This sounds like an answer desperately seeking a problem.

As a fleet mechanic and engine builder of 20 years I always filled oil filters and was able to see many gas engines go 300,000+ miles with no problems. I always have and always will fill my oil filters based on my first hand observations.

The flood mode method came up in another oil change thread and I thought it was a joke. After learning they were serious and reading about it I still can't believe people do this. Risk of a full throttle dry oil filter start?--Big nope for me honcho.

Given the thousands of RPM an engine generates I've never thought about the need to flush a modern engine. Many years ago I use to run 10w for a few minutes to cycle any residual particles form an aged engine. Modern technology with synthetic engineered filters and fluids render the flushing option as moot to unnecessary.

What could possibly go wrong?
Full throttle cold engine start, maybe?

Been trying to get this same question answered for a year now regarding my hybrid maverick. Half the time it just starts and the other half it cranks but it's more like a mechanical cranking than the oil purging sound we're used to hearing before you let go off the accelerator and it starts(pretty sure at this point it's a different method than the push to start ecoboost engines)

I know how to do the flood mode for the oil filter on my wifes 2.0L 2020 escape but it's always tricky on the 2023 hybrid maverick. FordGuy on YouTube explains it well on all the push to starts(and key) since both our vehicles are push but still not any of the hybrid vehicles(honestly don't know at this point if the hybrid even Needs it). Don't know if you have the hybrid and are experiencing the same issue.
