Got a call last evening from Sunland Ford California. Said they just got a 'base' XL Maverick in. Didn't get into any detail, but she said I can come test drive it and it's about 30K, but that's negotiable. They did the same here with the Ranger. So if you buy from a dealer in CA add 10K, or even more for the more popular trucks, to the advertised sticker price. They call it "Market Adjustment". Of course that doesn't count tax, registration, destination fees etc. This is what's driving up the used vehicle costs. Crazy

That's a pretty outrageous quote for a "base XL." Also, the "base" implies the hybrid engine which is standard, and they aren't supposed to be getting those as dealer stock yet, nor selling them at all until the EPA issues its final fuel economy numbers.

I'd say there's something fishy about that call and that dealer.

hello!
I also ordered an xl! I figure I can add almost anything I want after the fact and I am super excited!
Same here. Dealer said no bed cover from Ford, so no problem. They are half of Ford's price on the aftermarket already. Assuming, of course, that I ever get the truck. Zero communication from the dealer or Ford. Ford's failure to communicate is not a good omen.

So Ford is taking orders for a truck that is not EPA approved yet? And how long are we supposed to wait for their little antics? And why weren't we told this when making our orders weeks and weeks ago?

Not exactly. Ford is, however, failing badly at communication. I hear that the EPA fuel economy result should be out "very soon" but we don't know why it is late. The hybrid power train for Maverick is pretty much the same as what has been in the Escape for some time now. But they have to retest to get numbers for a different weight vehicle, different wind resistance, etc. It will be approved, no question. But regulations require official data on that window sticker before the truck can be sold. The Ecoboost engines are done and going out. The hybrid is still on hold.

Those numbers are hokey anyway. The last four cars I have owned all recorded better numbers than EPA, and consistently so. There are a lot of variables.

Congrats on that. You must have ordered back in July or something. I ordered an XL hybrid with just 360 and a hitch receiver in August. Crickets is all I've heard since the order was confirmed.
Mine is similar except to hitch receiver. Ordered in August but dealer gave me a high priority code to get it in sooner

Thats my dealer! I asked them and they said they had no XLs at all coming in. They add quite a steep markup on non-orders. They were marking up some cars $10K or more!!!

Just ordered and new XL this morning and a few minutes later received confirmation from Ford. I like the steelies, but there are so many options to change the look. I'm thinking of painting the wheels black and adding a chrome trim ring and some kind of chrome center. Wish I knew what kind of schedule I'm really looking at. Anyone with an idea?

dont do that it will look crappy.

rock the steelies for a while until someone posts up pics of a rim that looks good. i think there is a lot of flexibility with what will look good as an aftermarket rim on these. might lower it a tad as well. have to wait and see.

Al, we're in the same boat, with the same crickets. I ordered my XL June 11, identical to yours, but with a tonneau and mud guards. I heard from my dealer about a month ago that the mud guards were a deal breaker, so we cancelled the mud guards. For a month, we had cicadas, but we are back to crickets now. I don't know whether or not I should keep reading this forum; it just keeps getting worser and worser.

I guess the hybrids are the hold up. I ordered the silver with the 360 and hitch. So wait and see! Weather I call Ford or my Dealer I get the round around. Wait until I get a VIN NUMBER. But the Dealers are already jacking up prices between $2500--$5000. So hang in there

The tonneau covers have also been "late" meaning that orders are being held back for them. My dealer took the tonneau cover off my order, as well as the rubber removable bed mat. I figure a $50 "cow mat" from the farm supply is probably just as good and cheaper than that bed mat. But I'm going to have to add a tonneau cover somehow.
