In Argentina, there's a user speaking very negatively about the Ford Maverick, to the point where some of us suspect they might be financed by a company aiming to decrease Maverick sales.

This user spray-painted a Ford Maverick and put up signs, criticizing every aspect of the vehicle, exaggerating all issues. In Argentina, we tolerated this scandal to a certain point. Now, some of us, with a bit of frustration (because it tarnishes our vehicle's image), decided to show this user they were wrong on some points, particularly focusing on the autonomous brake.

We know this approach may be criticized, but sometimes these issues are best addressed with a shock. Despite taking risks, we not only enjoyed confronting this problem respectfully but also demonstrated to the world how safe this vehicle can be. Please notice we did the test with and whitout seatbealt intentionally, also we tested Lariat and XLT.

Please check out this video down below. You can enable English subtitles and appreciate the autonomous braking. We appreciate the likes and shares.

Greetings to all, and thank you.

DISCLAIMER
-The pre-collision system functioned in all conducted tests.
-The system decides when to intervene and when not to.
-If the driver intervenes, the system deactivates.
-Braking remains the responsibility of the driver.
-The system does not operate with lifeless mannequins.
-At high speeds, the system issues an alert but deactivates autonomous braking for safety reasons.
-Ensure autonomous braking is activated and adjust its sensitivity.
-We do not endorse in any way the statement made by this person regarding Mr. Antico.
-Local permission was obtained to carry out the test.
-The system is also compatible with other vehicles and can even function with bicycles and motorcycles.

DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS TEST In the shots, we tested with and without a seatbelt (intentionally to demonstrate that it works both ways). This video was not sponsored by anyone.
Is this feature on Default? I know we can adjust the sensitivity but is precollision always on?

Unless there is something, like ICE or snow etc, blocking the forward facing camera pre-collision assist is on by default. The truck freaks out every few minutes and pops up warnings, and a light comes on on the dash if the system is not working.

Yes, it is always on by default, but it's good to check; perhaps someone turned it off before delivering the vehicle. It's also positive to increase its sensitivity.

I enjoyed watching this with my daughter, who provided me with a running translation (as well as some laughing).

How well will this system work with mid-sized wild animals like javelina or coyotes? Hitting one of them will definitely mess up the front end of the Maverick, so if this pre-collision avoidance system can help us avoid them, that would be excellent. Larger wildlife (horses, deer, bear, etc.) will surely trigger the functionality, right?

Hard to say, given that a good number of members have had deer strikes and never mentioned pre-collision assist I suspect it doesn't work for animals. I've had dogs run out in front of me, never had warnings.

You are right, and if those dogs were big enough, there isn't any practical difference to a javelina or coyote.

It makes me wonder what kind of effort would be necessary to alter the system functionality to recognize and react to our four-footed friends. You would think that the insurance industry would be on board with that kind of ability.

Given that the system uses image recognition software, it would require adding animal images/sharps to the recognition system. I suspect vehicle manufactures use as few images as possible to a) make the system faster to react, and b) smaller image database storage requirements. Lariat's with the full sensor array may also use radar to detect objects, so the Lariat's system may work better than the camera alone on the XL/XLT.

Did you see the one recently where someone is sitting in the cab testing a bullet proof window from a .50 BMG?

Hell naw.

Same with this one... hell naw. Those hospital bills (or worse) are not worth it lol. They could have replicated a person much safer.

I agree, but this user used a mannequin, and AI did not recognize it. But I get your point; you are right. Thanks for your comments!

I saw one with a deer cutout or some cardboard thing that didn't work either. I think replicating a walking movement could help.

Yes using a human shaped object like a mannequin for testing is usually how it is done. Here is a IIHS video testing the Mavericks AEB system during the day and then at night. The test was done at 25 mph and the "pedestrian" was stationary.

The video is indexed so if you want to see how similar systems perform on different vehicles like the Mach-E it's easy to find. They specifically test the Mach-E with a walking "pedestrian" and it scored very high.
