As my daughter has stated, it's been time to get a new vehicle from this century. That has some drawbacks, like it took me two month to actually like my Maverick that still does surprising thing. Case in point...

I was on the highway today, going with about 60 Mph in the middle lane. The traffic started to slow down in the middle, but the inside lane was open with plenty of room to change. Proceeded to do just and I was almost fully out from the middle lane, when the alarm went off, both on the display with red something blinking and loud sound.I really didn't have time to look at the display, nor did I know initially what it was relating to. Not to mention that it scared the hell out of me. I just continued finishing the lane change and then realized, that it must've been per-collision assist. Neither the system, nor I used the break to slow the vehicle down since it had been a false alert. It's a good thing I experienced this, but made think.

When you go around 60+ Mph and your system is the only one that slams on the brake, that could cause a rear-ended accident or even a pileup. Maybe not, but I am curious of your view for the per-collision assist at high speed...

TIA...

You had time to intervene and the system let you with a friendly warning.

I think it only applies brakes when it determines your distance and speed are outpacing your possible reaction time.

Thx...

I wouldn't go as far as calling it "friendly warning" at the first time, especially one does not know what it is, but got your point.

This and the cross traffic alert is nice to have, once I got used of them....

The few times I had it alert me I was definitely very close to the line of "could be an accident". I'm glad the system is there.

Judging by how close it let me get I think it's designed to increase the odds of survivability and not prevent a crash.

That would help explain all of the mavericks with front end collision damage :censored:

Is there a way to permanently disable it? Hearing it CAN make an uncommanded brake application is very alarming.

Yes...

"Settings\Driver Assistance\Pre-Collision Assist\Active Breaking" on or off, page 251 in the manual....

Forgot to add, I wouldn't recommend it. You'd better off with it enabled, than disabled. Just my take on it....

I strongly suspect that it does learn a bit over time and become more accurate over time.

It could be a coincidence, but the only time I have ever had it warn me was the day I picked it up from the dealer. I was driving in the right lane of a road with two lanes going my direction. Someone was in the left lane, stopped and waiting to turn left. It was on a slight curve, so the system probably thought I was in their lane and was going to hit them. Since then, no warnings in any situation.

Mine has gone off at me a few times, it's usually when someone I'm following is turning right, I'll back off when I see their signal and then accelerate as they're turning. Seems to freak it out as it doesn't know the intentions of the turning car.

This system has been absolutely quiet for me for six months. Then in the last week it's given me two completely spurious alerts in quiet city streets. I'll take the system over not having one, but it's not fully baked IMHO. Not like it applied brakes. Just a flashing red screen and a fast beeping.

I found it very accurate when I first got my Maverick. The last three times have been non-sense, no vehicles anywhere near me when it went off. Times it should have gone off, like it did when I first got it, it did not. If it's learning, it's not very good at it.

I wish the lady that rear ended me last year going 75 MPH had a system like this. she didn't know traffic had stopped until our cars made crunchy sounds.

Gm publishes literature saying their system is designed to lessen the impact damage not prevent impact. based on my experience i would say the ford system is designed to do the same.

sure these systems are not perfect but they are a shit ton better than the human beings that half ass drive their cars at super sonic speeds while playing with their phones. I got rear ended two days ago sitting at a cold red light because the person behind me didn't want to wait for it to turn green so he floored it and tried to push me through the intersection. Fortunately his Nissan Sentra splattered on my hitch doing no damage that i can tell other than my 4 pin plug being a little jiggly now. Naturally he ran the red light while waving his gun at everyone.

All hail our robot overlords we are not worthy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
