Sometimes a signed buyers order isn't a buyers order at all. Be careful and read the fine print.

Yes, you have a DORA. It's not an invoice. If you want to lock in your price you need a completed purchase agreement which means completing all the financing arrangements.

Perhaps I was lucky but the dealer honored a sales agreement we both signed when I ordered the vehicle. I thought that was standard procedure at ordering with a deposit, at least by honest dealerships. Not sure that the financing agreement is needed for the price to be contractually locked

How is that possible when you have no timeline? You can’t get financing without that. My agreement is similar stating it isnt a binding contract. So what are we even signing? This process is a disaster.
Apparently I signed a good faith agreement with a car dealership. Lol, wtf was i thinking.

Has anyone have success in a specific line of conversation with dealer prior to vehicle arriving to confirm that the price signed will be the price sold? At the time when placing order the dealer would not talk about financing said we'll deal with that when the truck comes in we can't do anything at this time. Thank you

My salesman put in writing that the sales manager approved the price is guaranteed. I had to push for it. At first he said it was up to Ford. But I saw on a video that he could give me a price guarantee. Tim Bartz had it in one of his videos. I sent that clip to the salesman and he got me the price guarantee. We have to be our own advocates here and not settle for no.

My dealer, Skyline Ford in Salem, OR has on it's website that there is no ADM, and price and incentives are guaranteed. My truck will be here this week and I just got an email from the salesperson with those same things stated.

I got a form with OTD price signed by me and sales manager. It's on dealership letterhead not Ford corporate. So this is a contract that the dealer won't tack on ADM or BS services. But ultimately the MSRP comes from Ford.

The build sheet has that BS note. Do it's true it isn't guaranteeing anything except they will try and put on an order, what you are wanting for options, and anticipated MSRP at the time. Be sure you get confirmation the order is actually in (because the form does not guarantee that) and final OTD price.

All correct. Welcome to our world.

The uncertainty can be partially mitigated by using dealers with a track record of not dicking people around.

The deposit mostly seems just to mean you've covered your closing costs in advance. I didn't give a deposit and my dealer mostly honored the original price. They wouldn't budge on the midyear price increase.

If you want the price to be contractually locked you need a contract. A dora is not a contract or even and invoice.

This is pretty much what my dealer and I signed. An out-the-door price regardless of when it shows up. I have another sheet that has the terms of delivery (within three days, etc.). I have a photocopy of the agreement simply because the dealer didn't need me to swing back by the dealership to pick it up if I was fine with an electronic copy.

Note: while this says 2022, they have assured my this applies to my 2023 order. They simply fat-fingered the model year on this page. They match these based on the retail order number only and the vehicle details are for my benefit only.

Only two possible outcomes: 1, the dealer is good and you don’t need a signed agreement. 2, the dealer is bad and you need a signed agreement.

That being said, if the situation is #2, you need the signed agreement to be accurate to be useful. I think the juxtaposition of “signed agreement” and “dealer assured me” is humorous.

What makes you think the signed contract isn't to protect them?

All I have is a signed dora with sales manager signature on local dealership leatterhead from a year ago. What are my options at this point to prevent shenanigans once vehicle finally arrives?

It seems to me that a sales agreement listing all costs and signed by both parties with or without a financial payment plan is about as good as it is going to get with a car dealership. My dealer honored the original price as it was shown on the sales agreement signed by both parties. They also honored the 0% interest rate although not shown on the agreement but shown on the Ford paperwork (Vincent).
