Hey everyone, I started getting a check engine light on my 23' Maverick after installing the Afe Momentum GT Dry Cold Air Intake. I got the code P04F0, EVAP System High Load Purge Line 'A' Performance, after taking it to a shop. They checked all the lines and the purge valves and nothing was wrong, they also found nothing with a smoke test.

Any advice on fixing this would be appreciated.

I know on the S&B intake instructions they tell you to leave the battery unhooked for two hours so no codes pop up-

I tried unhooking the battery for 3 hours and the code popped up again. I also read through Afe's manual and it never mentioned unhooking the battery. The battery also wasn't unhooked in the PandaMotoworks video.

Buy an OBDII scanner and clear the error code. If it comes back you have an issue (which is probably a failed sensor).

I know EVAP codes can be triggered by a faulty gas cap, but the Mav doesn't have a gas cap.

I do have sensor and the code keeps coming back. Would a faulty IAT sensor cause this?

This has to be done during the intake swap not there after. Hopefully it gets sorted

I guarantee you that the air getting pulled into your engine is the same temperature as before. Just likely more due to less restriction.
That means your fuel/air mixture has to compensate. By closing an air gate more and defeating the new intake or richening the fuel air mixture.

It’s trying to return to the preset stock air fuel ratios that are decided by the software as you drive.

A performance tune would be the next step.
Money money, hop ups get expensive.

I had a check engine light and the codes pointed to an air intake error. The check engine light would go on for a drive and then off for a few, but eventually came on for good. I had thought it might be related to one of the recalls, but in my case, 2 sensors had been faulty. There's a chance the check engine light is unrelated to your upgrade and it might be a coincidental sensor fault.

There are so many nanny aides on new vehicles its hard to modify anything without causing a symptom or code.

I would disconnect the battery for 8 hours (overnight). The computer will reset and then have to readjust the the info from the sensors.
The 8 hour reset is also a wise thing to do if you are replacing a dead battery.

Take it back, Ford can cancel your warranty by putting it on
Besides it does not make any more power, if it did they would show dyno results to prove it

Have the same issue. With the AFE intake installed I get the same code, P04F0. Cleared the code and CEL came back on a few days later. Removed intake and put stock back on. Cleared the code again and the light has been off ever since. This is not a coincidental sensor failure. Seems as though there is an issue with this design or a custom tune is needed to keep the light off. Emailed AFE today and am waiting for a response.

The easy fix is going back to stock as @Angmar found out.
As he noted " This is not a coincidental sensor failure. "

Cold Air snake oil systems primarily increase your top speed by making your wallet lighter.
The stock air intake is already up front, the intake doesn't cool the air.

It's just an expensive gimmick that apparently is great at consistently causing a problem you didn't have to begin with.

Most "theoretical" performance improvements with "Cold Air" intakes seem to be as the result of some version of an oiled fabric air filter, which are less restrictive and better at allowing dirt into the combustion chamber.
Adding more air than the engine needs doesn't improve anything, as you note, because the car wants an appropriate air/fuel ratio.

As the Ecoboost is already turbocharged, it's highly unlikely that the engine has an air supply shortage. A performance tune via a chipset could make a difference, but likely at the expense of increased fuel usage, a potentially a reduced engine lifespan and a near certain termination of any warranty coverage.

A "Cold air intake filter" is exactly what the name implies.
The intake air is cooler and therefore more dence which should produce more power.
It does not necessarily allow more air flow.
