What is this cover you refer to?

The forward facing camera cover?
Right - that second part number is for the cover the Ford parts guy said I needed for the acoustic windshield.

After the install, a casual look at it says it doesn't look any different than the cover that was there originally. I think the original cover probably would have worked is my guess.

At 10,000 miles on my '24 XLT EB AWD, I had two chips in my factory windshield, one was a significant hit that was a small, quarter-sized spider web of cracks.

Last Friday I had the acoustic windshield from the Lariat installed on my XLT. It fits fine. The Ford parts people said I needed to buy a new cover for the inside, but I don't know why because it looks exactly the same to my eye. The price difference between the standard windshield replacement and the acoustic windshield is only like $35. The cover I bought was another $30, but I should have asked them to try to fit the original. Anyway, the bottom line is it can be done.

There is a noticeable but small improvement in wind noise reduction. I can tell it's a little quieter but it didn't change my life. I have the factory optioned Falken Wildpeak AT3W's, which are noisier than the standard all-seasons, and I'm noticing the tire noise slightly more after the wind reduction from the windshield. I also have the fender insulators from the Lariat, which does help knock down a bit of the road noise from the front tires that enters at the front doors.

Overall, if you need a windshield replacement for some reason, have them put in the acoustic in, as the cost difference is rather trivial.
Hello, I have an XLT also, do the Lariat Fender Liners for right on or did you have to Modify? I would like a set. Thanks

Correct, it was the Lariat Fender Liners that fit right in. These were the part numbers I bought.

Fender Insulator Right - Part # NZ6Z16071A. MSRP: $46.93
Fender Insulator Left - Part # NZ6Z16072A. MSRP: $46.93

Any chance cleaning and treating the door seals with clear guard or some other softener, conditioner, would help ?
Is there such a thing ?
Adding some thin flat black pliable extra door seal to where the factory door seal hits paint ?
Tighten things up a tad.
Anyone follow my thinking ?

🤔 🤓 What is an acoustic windshield? 🤔

I've read it's more durable, so hopefully it'll resist chipping better. Replacing windshields sucks.
Yeah like Jeep had gorilla glass for the wrangler. That didn’t do crap, still chipped and cracked that thing was a magnet for rocks and such lol.
So what’s the diff between the two windshields??? Extra layer of glass or poly film between the sheets? I would think the wind noise is coming from the seams around the window not fully flush. I don’t know just trying to wrap my head around the whole quieter window thing.

You may have seen it more obviously on side window glass when rolled down and viewed from the top. It's a thicker glass that's actually made out of two panes of glass separated by a thin insulated space of air. I read a year or so ago that some luxury cars have gone to a triple pane.

I use shin etsu silicone grease on all my cars, works great to keep weatherstripping fresh

Other than the placebo effect on a new windshield.,
I would like to see a decibel reading before and after changing a windshield to the acoustic windshield.

Fair question, of course, and a one-number dBA doesn't really tell the story as much as the reductions along the frequency spectrum where they are occurring. Just reading about it a bit, the highest reductions seem to come mostly at mid-frequencies consistent with wind noises and other traffic noises, not at lower boomy frequencies.

But there is a reason that manufacturers are going through the trouble and cost to implement acoustic glass, often on side glass as well, and in some cases rear hatch and EV glass roofs. There is a general sound benefit that is worth it. There is a reason that Ford went to the trouble to add it to the Lariat, and if there wasn't they would surely take the cost reduction as they have in other areas.

For a platform like Maverick, built with specific cost/price points in mind, Ford is not going for Mercedes levels of NVH, and they are picking their battles very carefully. Having driven my XLT more since the acoustic windshield was installed, I see why they did it, and it definitely has an effect, though it does also shift the attention to the next loudest thing. In my case the next loudest thing is first, the AT Falken Wildpeak tires, and next the remaining wind noise coming from the A-pillar, side mirror area.

My overall point, though, was if you need a windshield replaced for some reason, have them put the acoustic version in, as it's a $30-60 difference at the glass retail level.
