With the delays, I've changed my configuration many times (in my head) and once with the dealer. I started w/XLT + LUX + Moon + Co pilot 360 and went to Lariat + Lux + Moon + Co Pilot 360 but am now even considering downgrading to XL + Moon + Co Polit 360.

Why? Because I don't know what purpose this vehicle has. I already have three other vehicles, including a 2015 F150 3.5L EB, along with a high mileage 2006 Subaru and a very low mileage 94 Camaro Z28. I also have a child (19) who thinks the truck is his (but is only here part time as he is in school during the winter - w/o any of the vehicles).

Further complicating this is that money isn't the real sticking point - I could buy any version I wanted to (including a new F150), but offsetting this is that I am cheap and don't like overpaying for anything (I bought my 2015 F150 XLT 302A + Tow Pkg for 34K ... new).

I originally got interested in the Maverick after looking into the Bronco - I might have ponied up to order a Bronco if I had any thought that it would be a reasonable time to get it. Right now, it is way too much hassle factor (and obviously given the market no deals to be found).

Thinking that the Maverick might end up in my son's hands, one thought is "XL + safety stuff" is the value play, no need for more. That might even be true it I were the primary driver. Right now, my order is Lariat + Lux etc., assuming I am going to be the primary driver - and if true also as a way to keep me from wanting to just drive my F150 (which I spent some $ on in upgrading the sound system).

Alternatively, another approach is to just .... wait. Cancel the Lariat order and wait a year or so to see where things are with the Bronco and/or Maverick w/Hybrid + AWD, along with the assumption that my Subaru will be reading for the junk yard. Even if the Subaru goes sooner, I still have my Camaro to pleasure drive in the summer and F150 for all else.

Part of the problem with the waiting is it makes me rethink the impulse buy. :)

Is app controlled remote start not included with all trims?
If it's anything like the Volvo remote start app, there is a monthly fee to use it.

That's definitely the weak link in fords release strategy!

If you don't need the F150 for actual truck stuff, you could probably do an almost even trade in for a Maverick XL or maybe even XLT for your kid (but make him pay for it with a summer job) and get the lariat for yourself.

I thought of that - but I do need the F150. I use it for firewood (I have property that I use for firewood - yes, I could get by with the Mavericks bed I guess) plus a L-Series Kubota that I occasionally need to transport (on a trailer) using the F150. The tractor plus trailer is about 7K pounds, no way to do that with any variant of the Maverick.

Fords app is free to use. All Mavericks will have the ability to be locked/unlocked or remote started!

On my end, the choice to pick up the XLT was pretty easy. My current car has a heated steering wheel, heated seats, and remote start. Those have already spoiled me for cold northern winters, and I'm looking forward to the heated wiper rest almost as much as the aforementioned features.

While the XLT interior (which I like) is a nice bonus, I don't think I could go back to having a winter vehicle without those features anyway. The price on the XL, even loaded up with features, is still very tempting, but I'm a sucker for convenience (and warmth).

As someone who received a car from my parents, another side for you to consider that you might not have thought of initially is the residual value. If/when your son inherits the Maverick, that Lariat trim will translate to a surprising amount of extra $$$ down the line if he trades it in or sells it. My hand-me-down vehicle had top trim options, too, and aside from the convenience and safety those features offered, all that extra value from the higher trim is helping a LOT as a trade-in.

If it's all the same to you financially and you plan to enjoy it for a while before he gets it, why not pass those benefits on to him? In my opinion, it sounds like a win-win all around.

smart to use Cost/benefit analysis in situations like this (y) I'm constantly amazed by how many people don't on high $ purchases.
Most people finance or or lease, so they just pay for expensive options over time. Death by a thousand cuts.

For those who actually pay cash for their cars, they tend to scrutinize the bottom line a bit more closely. 👍

Yea I kinda saw the same Math. By the time I add the 360 package to the XL for the power mirrors (I like to swing the mirrors slightly out when I have someone behind me with his high beams on), budgeted for the wheels, the difference in price was only $500 and I still end up without cruise control (probably another $500 aftermarket?). Just seemed like a lot of work for a base model that did not save me much.

Maybe if I was really frugal and tried to shop around for a set of pull off wheels from a dealership and tried to DIY the cruise control I could save maybe $500-$800. But time is money too and I would have to spend a lot of time trying to setup deals.
I'd be in the same boat. I was in the "cruise control is a luxury" crowd. Never use it on my day-to-day driving. Then I towed a trailer for 9 hours a day. Suffice it to say, I'm really glad my Nissan Frontier has cruise control. Now I want radar-guided cruise control so I can just find a semi going close enough to how fast I want to go and literally cruise behind them.

For me, the stickler to get an XLT more than cruise control is the power driver's seat in the Lux package. My Frontier has a 4-way (or what some automakers consider a 2-way) seat. Slide and recline. It's a 1-hour seat at best, which is absolutely fine for daily driving but sucks on longer trips.

After the Frontier and my last commuter with its 6-way manual seat, I'm hoping to never buy another car that doesn't have at least an 8-way (slide/recline/height/lumbar), preferably a 10-way (slide/recline/height/lumbar/tilt) or 12-way (slide/recline/height/tilt/upper lumbar/lower lumbar) seat, even if it's fully-manual adjustment.

I could not get this truck without the keypad. I leave my keys in every Ford I own and they all have the same code. The remote start on this is an even bigger plus for having it.
Just get a spare key and wire it under the rear fender like I do .

What the heck kind of summer job does your kid have to be able to pay for a $20,000 truck? 😂

I've done the finance route multiple times when it made sense, or was my only option early in my career and paying cash wasn't an option for new cars. There was even an "aha moment" when I realized my work Credit Union payment for a new 1987 Ranger would be less than I was paying for gas, maintenance, and repairs annually on my old Mustang when I had a long work commute. I also leased once too on my last (2006) Ranger when I only needed the truck for 2 maybe 3 years during a transition period and Ford offered me insane incentives on the lease.

RE: scrutinizing bottom line- comes natural for me and I always had a habit of living below my means while making sure I had the important stuff covered and was careful/smart with the leftover $. My wife is the same way which has had positive benefits like retiring early and never fighting about money or expensive hobbies  It's harder when you're starting out in life, but never felt limiting as we got older and earlier habits started paying off in satisfying quality of life.

Hah, well when I was a kid my Dad "financed" the car for me and I paid him back working summer jobs. Made about $4k a summer, so I would give him $3k and keep the $1k for incidentals. Owed my dad $2k by the time I finished college back in 2011 and he forgave the rest as my graduation present. I plan to do that with my kids. I feel like it was a good intro into real world finances/bills that I don't generally see kids getting in college.

Decent internships are paying $20 an hour now though, so I could see a kid paying a car off pretty easily if they are smart and don't party all the time.

LOL, who knows. Car/Truck buying is a disease, that is why it is best to never ever look at new stuff coming out when you have perfectly good stuff already. :)
