Since September, I have had an XL hybrid on order. Absolute crickets since then.

Last week I watched one of those live Long McArthur videos on YouTube. I heard some stats about the orders. Something about 30% XLT capacity but only 25% XLT orders vs the 15% XL capacity with 32% orders. I sent Tom an email asking if he would recommend switching from XL to XLT at this point. He simply said "yes" in his response. Its a few thousand more dollars, but it seems like XLTs are being built while XLs, the bulk of the yet unscheduled, are not. I'd happily pay a few grand more to have this thing, and the upgrades included aren't bad either. So, I called up my dealer and had them change my '23 order from a bare-bones hybrid XL to a bare-bones hybrid XLT.

This morning, I woke up to the wonderful surprise of the scheduling email.

Was this due to the recent increase in capacity for hybrids? Was this due to the COVP removing a few thousand orders from the order bank? Was this due to Ford increasing retail order production? Was this due to my priority code being changed from 15 to 14 when I switched to XLT? Was this because Ford favors more profitable orders, and XLT makes them more $ than XL?

Like everything with this entire mysterious and god-awful process, who the F knows. All I know is that the math appeared to be more favorable for XLT than XL, and after 9 months of nothing, my order was scheduled within a week of the switch to XLT. No clue if the XL would have been scheduled had I not switched.

Anyone else have a similar experience? Thoughts from anyone more knowledgeable than I on the subject?

Agree who knows. My experience was dropped stand alone hitch Jan 25, got scheduled mid Feb for my Lariat hybrid. I believe dropping hitch got me scheduled

I picked up my 2023 XL hybrid today and man am I impressed. Not in my wildest did I expect to be this pleased. This thing can't be the least expensive Maverick as it seems loaded. Haven't had a digital compass ever and it will take me awhile to learn all the other goodies this truck has. Rides and drives like a dream. The refined interior lacks those ugly orange accents and it's much nicer than the pictures show. The interior fabric goes much better with iconic silver than the one up the street which is an XLT in silver. I think the XL is the model to buy as they are unique with fewer of them on the road. So you're unlikely to meet yourself coming. I may not get much sleep tonight as it's all I can think about.

I will stick with my XL Ecoboost order. I'm not willing to shell out two or three more thousand dollars, and I really think the XL offers enough to be a good truck. Everybody is different, but I think I will be happy with the XL.

The electric AC in the hybrid is downright amazing. Whisper quiet and efficient with none of that compressor/clutch and belt noise. Now if I can only figure out a way to get it away from my wife.

That was surprisingly fast!

I think all the factors you mentioned resulted in your getting a build date. If there are twice as many XL orders compared to build capacity, someone is going to have to wait.

I have been buying Ford trucks since 1991 and I have found the XLT to be the best value for me. The seats are more comfortable in my opinion.

With the extra $1500 increase for the 2024 hybrid engine I would think the XL will become even more popular. Wouldn't surprise me if XLT owners start blacking out their grills to look like the XL's. Some XLT owners here already prefer the steelies. I don't see the value in paying more for the XLT.

Agreed!
Best AC I have ever had hands down. I live in Houston so it gets a heavy workout. Can’t believe how well it works - and especially for a economy vehicle.

In my past experience lower line models came with less sound proofing but I don't think that's the case with the XL which is amazingly quiet with a refined non truck like ride. The stock 17" tires with greater side wall and compressibility no doubt add to the comfortable and quiet ride. The only advantage I see with XLT might be its padded steering wheel compared to the harder grainy feel of the XL's wheel. Wheel skins might be the answer or a DIY switch to the one from an Escape viewed online.

I absolutely love my Ecoboost XL. I originally ordered and XLT hybrid in Oct 21. After waiting 14 months and being scheduled and cancelled I decided to switch to Eco. I figured while I was at it I might as well save a few grand and switch to XL. With the private offer I got it for 20 grand. The interior of the XL is awesome! The Eco is a blast to drive.
